Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place but here goes. I'm trading my 97 Altera LS in for a TL ES and the Mitsu dealer thats selling it to me has put the 17" standard wheels & tryes from the latest 380GT on it instead of the stock 15". Is this going to affect my speedo in anyway or should I trust the Mitsu dealer & service centre to have done it correctly? Where in VIC can I go to have it checked?

It will affect your speedo, by about 4.9%, which means that when the speedo reads 60, you'll be doing about 63.

If you're concerned about it, you might be able to get a speedo reduction box, which will correct the error.

these 2 will be able to show u what tyre u need to be as close as possible to the speedo for the original rim/tyre.

hehe didn't see that veradabeast already put one up.

Its not just the size thats different. The 380 GT tyres only has a 92/93 load rating. The
TL ES requires a 94/95 load rating which makes the fitting of the GT wheels/tyres illegal.

Should the RACV guy note that on the report when he does his pre-purchase inspection? I don't have it here right now, but don't remember seeing anything on it.

It should be noted by the RACV inspector if he/her is any good. The tyre placard on the
drivers door jamb should say what is the legal requirement which the RACV inspector should
have checked against.

Just because it was fitted by a dealler (second hand ones and some new car dealers) does
not mean it is legal.
