Hi, i have a 95 TS Magna Advance with the silky V6  however, been getting some major problems recently which a very good mechanic ironed out. Had cambelt replaced, ICM, valve seals replaced, coolant sensor, and injectors ultrasonically cleaned. It was all running great up until yesterday when one of the problems from before reared its ugly head.

When accelerating fairly hard, for example climbing a hill on the freeway at 100kmh, the car is hesitating and losing power in sharp bursts. Could this be fuel filter/pump??

Another thing to note, i can only ever get 35 litres of fuel into my tank just after the petrol warning light flicks on!! whats with that?

Yeh i'd try fuel filter first up mate.

Also with the fuel thing, the 2nd gens are very wierd for that lol.

Mine used to do it, but now it seems to work more realistically... when the fuel light comes on now i can fit about 48L in. Still not close to the 60L mark... but better.

dimi108 suggested it might be the solenoid for whatever monitors fuel level

it could also be a bad connection in the engine bay. so to stop the slight blackouts buy a can of crc contact cleaner form dick smiths and give them all a good clean. u will be amased at the difference it can make.

I get the starvation thing too, when I'm cornering while accellerating hard with a quarter fuel tank left... I assume it just can't drink enough fuel, revs drop to zero and yeah, rises right back up half a second later... scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

yes lucifer!! has caught me off guard pulling out of a few junctions before and really struggling to get going. i know its nothing mechanical because i can feel the engine just trying to rev but being starved like you said. pretty sure it must be fuel filter or pump. I have a new filter to put on this week. will see if that helps. if not, time to look at the pump i think. Also with the fuel gauge not working properly, i reckon the whole tank is full of crap.

you'll find that most of the magnas suffer from fuel starvation
mine does, it just the way the tank is designed
the solution was a ralliart fuel tank i think
there was a thread about this not to long ago

surely not??? its absolutely terrible sometimes and has NO acceleration. this cant be a common problem...

You'd be suprised mine does it too.

Before i'd blame it on a fuel delivery problem, i'd look at the distributor cap for cracks, or the plug leads for arcing! Both common faults on 2nd gen magnas with higher klms!

plugs and leads are all brand new items. dis cap might be worth a look though, thanks

my little bro's TE used to "starve" around corners quite a bit. as far as i know it is a little bit common with magna's.

it does it in a straight line
