Hey guys, friends car having a few problems.
3rd gen, on startup, if left just idling on startup, with air con on, it will cause the engine to cut out. If air con is off, the car wont cut out on startup, I noticed its running a little rough, has just had battery replaced as had flat battery (kept going flat). Anyone got an ideas as to what issue could possibly be? Or think a service and tune would prob fix the problem?

Idle Speed Control servo could have failed, and/or your base idle is set too low. Any mechanic should be able to sort out your base idle, but you might need to go to a mitsi service centre to get the ISC motor diagnosed.

Here is a test procedure for the stepper motor in the idle speed controller:

remove your isc motor, clean off the carbon gunk on it (carby cleaner), renew the "O" ring (from mitsu spares).. and the idle with be perfect again! This will fix any bad idle problem, especially when the battery has been disconnected or replaced with a new one!

Wreckers for $50-90 for the black ISC (don't get one of the old red/brown ones!). If that is not the drama, even after cleaning all the gunk out, clean out the PCV on the front tappet cover. Use degreaser and the head of a nail to scrap and spray it clean. ISC failure is commonplace on pre 1999 magnas these days. I don't think I have any spare ISCs left over if I do I'll post up by Wed night 21/3.
