Driving along, my car started running very rough. Got it home, cylinders 2 and 3 dont seem to be doing much when i pulled the spark lead off. Gave it a compression test and its confirmed numbers 2 and 3 producing only 30psi , the others 170psi.

So whats the cause?? Dropped valves??? Im thinking timing chain has jumped as i have had previous problems with it. But why only 2 cylinders?? Shouldnt it be all of them if the timing chain has jumped??? Pulled the rocker cover off, cam seems to be fine pressing down on the valves.

Timing chain will cause problems with every cylinder usually. It seems rather strange that it would just suddenly happen though. Normally a valve not sealing would happen gradually over time.

Does your car run lean? It's possible maybe you have a couple of burnt valves. It can happen, although depends heavily on what mods you have already done to it. I would also check things like gasket, although again it's unlikely as it wouldn't cause compression to drop that low...

I guess i better pull the head off then. Do i have to pull the timing case cover off to pull the head off?

Thanks guys, took the head off, only took an hour and a half and broken head gasket between no.2 and no. 3 cylinders.

Now for the new head gasket and sell it off
