Hey Guys and Girls,

I have been wanting to do something with my tail lights for sometime. Thing is, I don't like the carbon fibre or clear tail lights, I found out the tinted TL/TW VRX tinted lights won't fit my TJ. As people have expressed to me and unfortunatly I am begining to agree with them that tinting my original tail lights (as sick as it would look) will just cause too much unwanted attention from the boys in blue.

My finaly idea is do what TJ02 has done (think I originally saw them on a white TJ belonging to Hey_Boi), it is either do this idea or give up and leave them stock. What do you guys think? I sorta like the painted tail lights but can't make my mind up.

black paint, with silver accents....lyk just around the circles and maybe around hte edges...only thin ones....i have to say would make it look a bit better

Not a fan of partially painting/tinting your tail lights, unless you did what that orange magna guy did with his verada tail lights, very classy. A big no from me :(

I did discuss about KJ mod to ivan but he feels its not too much of a difference from what he currently has.

I felt Silver may not look that great but black could be a better outcome.

if u did the kj lights as well as the bootlid, so u had the kj reversing lights too, would look alot better than just the kj lights conversion, and alot more classier than stickers over ur lights ;) tho agreed there is a few hundred dollars difference between mods :P

well if u thinkin about the kj option.. y not just paint the things black like the silver one ivo... have nothin 2 waste really.. im thinkin about the kj boot and lights for some time.. waiting to have enough saved up as i think the reversing lights on the back and chrome and the lights would look wicked on a white magna :) Dooo iiitttt

Put KJ tailights on. They transform the look of the car making it super classy. :)

hmmm...i have the kj lights..but i still actually like that one with the silver around the stock lights.

This is the Thread where Hendo TJ02 first put the tinted tail lights on his TJ so they do fit with a slight gap on the boot (as seen in the second link). Only thing is, does any know what he means by "adjusted the book"?

I don't think the gap will be as noticable on a black car now I think about it...

P.S. I have tried to e-mail him buit the account doesn't exist.

These ones don't look too bad, just wondering about legality. Atleast the stock TL/TW ones are approved.

I'm not after the verada look, not going for the classie look, going for more of a sleek/ modded kinda look. The tinted tail lights would suit what I am after or the same as what you have on your tail lights.

Though in short, why would you make your car look like somethin it isn't. would hurt bad for resale to, cause people would think been in an accident or somethin like that. but still wat i paid for my TJ a few years ago i could get a same spec verada with maybe a few extra k's on it.

thats wat modifying a car is all about. who's going to think its been in an accident if u advertise it right. would u think a commo with an hsv kit had been in an accident? or if it had monaro headlights? no, u'd just think it was modified. would ppl think ur stripe was hiding some spot of rust? no they would just think it was modified. :gtfo:

Yeah but your doing more then just a body kit or stripe or head light. your putting a whole new boot that would prob need respraying etc. bit different IMO.

hows a new boot different to a body kit? both need painting, both are just screw off the old one, screw on the new one.

I'm going to try and chase myself a set of the TL/TW tail lights down for legality issues or failing that, those tinted ones from Ebay.

Just put a light layer of tint on, if they'res TL lights that are tinted then no wurries just match them and when police ask, say its those. Not full proof but still worth while.

it'd be so good if they made the lights like they do for the vr4 galants, similar to the mazda 6 lights, with the black background...dunno why they dont make them for magnas, but they make the carbon ones? black would sell so much better!

get tinted TL ones or modify ur own ones to the darkenss you would like, then change the lights for clusters of LED's, would look clean and modded and no one else in perth has them

if u dont like altezzas or the rada rear lights i dont think theres much else more you can do accept put stickers of ur originals, my idea up there or get some altezzas and crack them open and modify to suit

mmmm yes yes i have a spare set of tj tail lights.. and thats an interesting idea i wonder if you can de-coloour the lense and use coloured globes and some shops of ideas would be nice.

well i drive a tf magna and was wondering what i could do to change the lights without going and gettin clear ones...yuck!
i brought this spray called night shade. cheaper option and it looks effective.
use it to tint ya lights to the darkness u want, i went VERY dark but than replaced the brake globes with red globes and no problems with cops cause still bright enough.
you could do that, cost ya about 15 bucks a can i think.
i did mine and still have like half a can.
no they arent legal but what is legal anymore...just dont drive like a tool and attract attention.

this has been discussed, not only is it illegal, but say goodbye 2 ur insurance if u have a rear end accident, and the person takes a pic of ur lights (they didnt see ur brake lights due to excessive tint)

if u'd read the thread u'd find he doesnt want to tint them for the above reasons, and is looking for legal ways of doing it

but it'll be hard trying to get one off becuase of the amp panels right behind the light
