Just wondering what little things to replace/clean/fix/look at when doing a fairly major service?
I bought the car as a run around, and once I got it I changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned the carbie, gearbox oil, spark plugs and spark plug leads
What is this dizzy people speak of? is that just the distributor? What needs to be done here?
And, are there any adjustments on the carbie to play with?

The distributor controls your spark timing to your plugs, when you remove the dizzy cap, there are points in there, which a rotor (the spinning black thing) makes contact with, if the points, or rotor end blade are worn then spark becomes less, and in turn if they are totally buggered can cause the cylinder and plug to not fire at all.
also if put back together wrong, can cause the car to backfire as the timing of the cylinder fires with the spark plugs will be out of time.
hope that clears it for you.
in other words, always good to replace the rotor and dizzy cap.
if you hear a knocking, or ticking at start up, put a screwdriver tip to the shaft that comes from the engine to the dizzy cap, and put ure ear to the end, if there is a loud, knocking, ticking noise, you need to replace your distributor body, as the shaft within is having slack and playing in the housing., this can later cause to failure of the dizzy.

One thing I was told was change the oil more than just regularly.

I use GTX2 oil and change it every 5000km
I was more though talking about things to do when buying this car, as I only bought it 6000km ago and wondering if I missed out on any bits that I should have done?
Like mentioned, I:
replace gearbox oil, engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, leads, cleaned carbie, new air cleaner and a friend checked my carbie vacuum hoses
Is there anything I missed?

Hoses are worth a look. Hard, soft, swelling under pressure, cracked, etc. If one lets go the end result usually costs.
