Got my stock stereo left over from my other car (6 by 9s, and 6" speakers)
Just wondering how to put them into a 88 Magna?
I had a look, and the parcel shelf has a cut out of some smallish (not sure what size) round speakers.
So I was thinking, can I put 6 X 9s in the front door cards?
Are they at all solid or will this lead to rattling and nothing more?
What size is the cut out in the Magna's at the back? 6"?

Yeah, they're 6" - and there are only 4" mounts in the dash up front...
I've just done exactly this to our TP - I made MDF standoffs for the rear parcel shelf (and thus used the standard 6" holes the factory provides for the both the parcel shelf metal tray and cover, so I can go back to 6.5" when we get around to fitting amp & sub/s), and enlarged some existing holes in the doors for the front 6.5's...
With a very slight modification, the standard DIN HU I fitted went into the original spot reasonably easy :-)
Cheers,
Mattt.
Depending on the mounting depth of the 6x9's you probably wont get them in the front doors, as you only have 1.5-2inches of space before you hit metal.
Ideally you want to get some 6 or 6.5 inch splits for the front and put your 6x9's in the rear.
I wouldnt bother using or even replacing the 4inch speakers that come stock in the dash, they're useless and it's too much trouble getting in there. I just left mine in there and disconnected them from my new system, havent looked back from there. :)
Hope that's something to go on.

The car is a run around, and the speakers I got cost me nothing, neither will the head unit, and i have a 12" sub a friend gave me, and planning on buying some $50 amp to run the sub.
I also have wiring from my main car which isn't fat enough to run the future system so I'm transplanting that...
I guess what I am trying to say is... this car is just my daily ****box and I want some sort of enjoyable sound in there but don't really want to spend any cash ;)
I took the front door trims off, and the only place I found space to fit speakers is closer to the the "wrong" side of the door (ie, just in front of the B pillar)
I'm unsure what to do with the front... maybe add some pods or something. I'll see how much they cost
How hard is it to expand the rear speaker hoels to accomodate 6 by 9s?

well for me i put a cheap cd player in ,6'' under the dash pointing toward ur feet and 6x9's on the parcel shelf with spacers so i didn't have to cut anything. sure it wouldn't win any sound offs but is good enough for a cheap system. can still turn it up so u can't hear what the ppl in the pasenger seat are saying:D sure the quality could be alot better but it only cost me 50 bucks for the 6x9's and I already had the head unit and 6'''s from another car. mabye next year i'll re-do it properly with sub and anp but this way works fine for now.

i have seen 6x9s in the front doors. so it can be done, i think theres a pic in the post my ride section.
but.... why would you want to. get some good 6" or 6.5" component fronts.
ultimately up to you, but yeah, it can be done, seen it, dont think there were spacers either.
