Can i make a mold of my bonnet now and replace it with a fiberglass one.

Cause i took my bonnet off the other day cause its dented as a mofo and i thought **** this is pretty heavy lol. and a fiberglass bonnet would take alot of weight off the car.

the bonnet absorbs a huge magority of front on impact in a collision... thats why its so heavy, and has so much bracing under it. if your bonnet was fibreglass and you had a front on collision at 40-50kph what would take the force out of the collision then?

There is also a chance for the fiberglass bonnet to distort, melt or catch fire due to the heat the engine generates.:nuts:

Ive heard of stories where people have been decapitated by a cf bonnet. Instead of it just bending it goes through the front window.

However some large trucks have fibre glass bonnets and I don't see them melting , distorting etc..

the design of a truck bonnet/engine bay allows for more airflow. first of all you have a grill larger than the engine on the front of the truck, and then the bonnet doesnt actually seal all the way around , it just kind of sits there and gets strapped down so air can flow through allowing heat to escape.

i tried googling you a pic of what i mean, however, thanks to the good ol us of a, the word truck now means, four wheel drive, or large ute.... :rant:

yep, that will happen if you buy a dodgy, cheap piece of **** . If you were to make one, either with fiberglass or carbon fiber... you or a professional that should be doing it will ensure there are some correct weak spots in the bonnet for if you should have a front accident... crumple zone effect kinda thing.

if its got a small dent... bog it up with fiberglass and repaint it. If its a big dent.. go to the wreckers and buy another one.. i belive it'd be cheaper than stuffing around.

Yep certainly true.
Heard of a few stories of that happening as well.
Bonnet bends on impact and the once the pressure hits the bonnet holders BOOM off comes the bonnet flings straight into your windscreen like a mini i don't know.
