Hey guys

Okay so i am in the middle of trying to procure 2 type r 12 inch subs.

300 for 2 sound like a good deal to anyone??

What is the difference between the 4 ohm and 2 ohm models? i have no clue what difference it would make :S. The ones i want to buy are the 4 ohm model. does this mean the 4 ohm can handle more current?

And i will be buying these to run off a 300 watt mono block each eventually, but for the moment i have a 500 watt sony 4 channel, that is running my kenwood 12's. Would this amp work for now until i save up enough dosh? what would be the best way to wire it all up with my current amp?

Thanks in advance guys.

Cheers Shibbs

i would get 2 dual 2's cause if you wire them up paraell you'll end up with a 2ohm load
then whatever the rms is for the subs just double that and get an amp to suit

You may want to check your maths on that. 2 4 ohm subs in parallel would yield a 2 ohm load.

ummm no thats not how it works
if you wire 2 4ohms subs in parallel you will end up with 4ohms
but if you do the same with a 2ohm you'll end up with 2ohms
the alpine subs are dual voice coils

first post was correct, 2 D2 subs = 2ohm final load, when series'ed and parallel'ed wiring.

or 0.5ohm load totally parallel, or 8ohm load totally series :)

sorry didnt realise they were dual voice coil drivers.

So If i run these 2 dual 4's in parallel i would be getting a 4 ohm current? which would mean when i go out to buy my amp i would need to buy an amp 4 times the power of the subs? so like 1000 watts rms monoblock to run 2 4 ohm loading type rs would pump the same as 500 watt monoblock to run 2 2 ohm loading type r's??

The confusion is killing me :S. all i want really want to know is, how my current amp would best be wired to these two babies, and what i can expect from it until the upgrade to either 1 monoblock running the subs in "parallel" or 2 monoblocks running each sub.

Thanks guys

Buy the coil config to match the load your amp can handle. if your amp is stable at 1 ohm buy subs to make a 1 ohm load.
If its 4 ohm make a 4 ohm load.

They are identical besides that will sound exactly the same and handle the same power.

Figure out what amp you are going to buy then work from there

wouoldnt you loose quality running it at less ohms? The lesser the ohms you run your amp at decreases your the amps damping factor doenst it? Correct me if im wrong people.

Yes you would (although it would be unnoticable to most) But in terms of the sub itself there is no difference.
For instance: 2 svc 4 ohm subs running at a total load of 2 ohms, will sound the same as a 1 dual 4 ohm sub wired for a load of 2 ohms off the same amp.

Neither voice coil config, dual voice coil/ single voice coil, 4ohm 2 ohm 1 ohm sounds any better or handles more power, it is all just convenience of wiring and should always be matched to your amp (or your amp matched to your subs)

Peace
