Guys,
i've just driven like 2,500km's towing 2 boats and a shitload of other crap in my boot so the whole time my engine has been under load and it's done a great job.
Neway, last night i was dropping a friend home and on the way back was a very long streach of straight road so it was time to give it a go and a bit of a clear out. I've noticed that once i get over 4,500RPM, which i believe is around peak torque, the power dies in the arse. She'll still rev right out to redline, but i loose so much power once i'm over 4,500RPM. I really don't think it was like this before i left so any idea's what it could be???
Mods are extractors with full straight through exhaust and pod.
Cheers

What was the load on your towball?

Peak is 60kg for our Magnas. Apparently over this can cause gearbox/engine issues. Im not sure what though. (This was told to me by a few Mitsu mechanics/dealers)

Total load would be
Boat=70kgx2
Trailer=80kg ish
Crap in the back=60kg's
plus 2 other passangers
So i was towing about 250kg's plus heaps of other stuff in the boot and 2 passangers

What Bain means is whats the downforce on the towball. i know my 4 can tow 1200k with 60 downforce on the ball. im light so it means i can sit on the back of the trailer and lift the weight off the ball.

not much of an issue in RWD cars coz the diffs in the back. Dunno y its an issue in FWD cars, but ive heard it multiple times.

I had a similar issue with my Charade on a trip to Melbourne and back ( a lot of years ago), and they put it down to my fuel filter. The car wouldn't pull over a certain number of revs, no matter what gear I was in. When they changed the filter, it was all fine.

Maybe they haven't changed the fuel in Melb since then :lol:

In a case like this I would always recommend a fuel filter as it is very possable you may have picked up some dirty fuel

True true,

I dont think TZABOY realises that when the Victoria fuel stations see NSW number plates they switch to the dirty fuel reserve on the pump they are using.. :lol:

I feel sorry for my friends TM Elite with EFI and a 5 speed. A couple of weeks ago me and dad both bought cars from the damaged vehicle auction. Dad got a '92 Camry, and i got a Magna Elante. My friend hired a car float and towed the Camry 50k's, before turning around, getting the Magna and doing it all over again.

Total weight for the car and trailer being towed would have been well over 2000kg.
