So, all the problems with the carbie I been having have almost been solved

Changed around the vacuum lines, gave the carbie a good clean and noticed the 2nd barrel never opened. Got that to open now and the car goes heaps better. Much more power and drivability

The only problem is now (only after this was done) the auto choke wont come off
It "idles" at 2000 or so rpm
What is the choke run on? Is it a vacuum hose?
Easy fix?

PS. The car temp reaches normal but choke still doesn't come off. It sometimes comes off but only after 30 minutes or so of driving. Which I rarely ever drive that far

It's a thermal wax type...

Cheers,

Thanks

And how I would go ahead with fixing it?

Im no expert on this but i would say you would need to replace the thermistat for the auto choke.

The temperature gauge though reaches half way
Tonight was cold and it dropped a bit under normal though

But, oddly enough choke was always fine until the carbie was cleaned and adjusted?

maybe you did something wrong in reassembly, something fouling and holding it closed? :)

If the choke comes off sometimes its probably because you've been sitting at traffic lights or something long enough for the engine to heat up enough for the choke to turn off. REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT! Your temp guage is probably lying.

As for the idle, I think the carby runs a vacuum secondary, which lines did you change around? You may have accidentally put the some vacuum lines in the wrong spots causing the 2nd barrel to open all the time. Change them all back and replace the thermostat, your car won't rev if the choke won't come off.

A mechanic friend did it for me
The carbie wasn't taken off or anything, just cleaned really well and hoses checked

But I'll try changing thermostat and doing a coolant change in it

joining the carby secondaries straight to vacuum doesn't open them all the time. i've done this so my secondaries are guaranteed to open under wot. they wont open as they are also partly controlled by the throttle too.

if your motor is idling too high, three things to look at:

*check the choke butterfly is opening at operating temp
*check the air conditioner idle up hasn't been joined incorrectly
*check the throttle cable isn't getting stuck
*check the idle and idle up speed settings are correctly set
