Which rear sway bar? Was it the 18-22 or the 19-23? Mine are waiting at home to go on with lowered springs and shocks, I'm itching to get it installed.

heya - good stuff - yeah they really improve the handling ;)

I think it was the 18-22, on the soft setting.
For a rough idea of the price, take a look at Whiteline's webstore: http://www.whiteline.com.au/store then add a few dollars for labour/fitting. :-)

I bought my sway bar & strut brace earlier this week, where's my discount Dave? :)

Okay my error here - I was supposed to write for the months of February / March hence the referral to the end of March. I wrote this late at night so my apologies for confusing people here.
I tried to go back and edit the post but being locked there was nothing I can do about it at this moment.
np dave...i'm sure i'll be making plenty more purchases from you guys in the future so you'll have many opportunities to make it up to me. :D

AKKO, you said you have a TJ Magna Exec??
How come under your bonnet it says Sports! ?
Hehehe, I think you'll find my scuff plates say sports aswell and I also have the "sports wagon" style spoiler kit fitted to...
I think if you look at any engine bay shots of Dave/RPW's TT Magna you'll notice exactly the same thing - the sports engine cover assembly looks really nice, heaps better than the stock look anyways!
Wouldn't you agree Dave. :-)

Don't know what your talking about - all vehicles modified by RPW are sport models by the time we finish with them :D
Meanwhile I better go hide all those covers I have sitting in my office that hide thos ugly rocker covers.

Hey. I went to a suspension place here in adelaide and i had a chat to the guys in there about strut braces and sway bars and they talked me out of the sway bar! They said the design of the vehicle won't support a sway bar as the extra stiffness will chew out the mounts and cost a fortune to fix. Could someone clarify this can this happen? Or doesn't he want my money :?:
Why would the Sports & VR-X come standard with sway bars then? :)

Them Sways bars make a driffence. Mine is driffently setup as my bushes face the other way. I dropped the bracket so that it was to the back and faced the bushes to the front.

Have had a sway bar on my car for ages now and no issues. As well mitsubishi has them standard on the sports model and no issues either.

If the prices for 22mm and 24mm rear sway bar is the same, Should we get the 24mm sway bar instead?
does this thickness make the car roll less? hence easier to loose the rear end in high speed corners?

Anything can be overtightened; just use a torque wrench and tighten strut nuts to the same rating as factory; make sure the bar itself doesn't have tension on it when you bolt it down; it should sit relatively loosely. It should only tense up when the car is being driven.

Any idea what torque those particular nuts should be tightened to?

I think you'll find a strut brace should only be fitted without being loaded. It's to hold it in place, not to tighten to change something.

From what I understand. Both will reduce equally however the thicker one will respond quicker. I've also been told the thinner one is good enough.

So would there be any advantage to upgrading the factory swaybar on a VR-X? How thick is the factory one?
Also does the strut bar actually affect anything that much?

Yup, it keeps the struts vertical, (or whatever angle they're at), so helps with turn in and reducing torque steer when flooring it. I'd get one and forget about the factory rear swaybar.

A thicker bar or a bar with adjustable leverage, will increase the amount of anti-roll. The increase in anti-roll strength increases exponentially as you go up in bar size. The factor that comes into play with how fast a bar reacts is how compliant the links/bushes are.
By going from a 22 to 24mm rear bar (from memory the 2mm increase brings around 40-50% stiffer anti-roll), you are increasing the handling towards oversteer... You also put more stress on the swaybar mounts + the shocks + springs on that end of the car. T
here is such a thing as too much anti-roll though; have you noticed how on the track a lot of racers actually get the car up onto 2 wheels around hard corners? Or in F1 cars (with no springs/shocks) they just slide out of control when the tyres hit their limits (the whole chassis is effectively one big swaybar with infinite anti-roll).
You will find that upgrading or fitting a rear swaybar will be much more effective in a FWD car than adding a front strut brace.

so can you just buy a front strutbar for the vrx if it already has a rear swaybar? would it help?
