Hi,
I've got a TP magna, the car started fine this morning when I went to work. At lunch time, I jumped in the car, but it wouldn't fire. I took the coil lead off the distributor cap, and a colleague held it close to the lifting point on the motor, but there was a very weak spark. Would it be the coil, or module that has just died, BTW car is EFI if it makes any difference.
TIA
Michael

Check the leads and make sure they are in decent condition first, and with the coil, they can fail but it's very uncommon. Check all the connections and try replacing the power transistor and the coil. You can pick them up from a wreckers for fairly cheap usually. Check the condition of the distributor cap on the inside also, and the rotor to make sure they aren't corroded (it will be obvious if there is lots of powdery residue on the bottom of the cap). Sometimes an increase in resistance due to corrosion or poor condition can cause issues making decent sparks.

the plugg on your dizzy might be dirty or corroded giving u a weak or no spark. try cleaning that out with contact cleaner . thats what happened to me when mine wouldn't start. after cleaning it , it started first go. commomn thing for this dodgy dizzy plug.

used to have a problem where mine just wouldnt start at random would turn over n over but nothing, changed the battery and its been fine ever since .. try jump starting it when it does this if it starts .. well battery, low voltage is just as bad as a flat battery rember u have to run injectors fule pump as well as the starter motor just to get it to fire
a scope would show anything not working right in the ignition system

A more suitable test would be to check the voltage at the coil and ignitor while cranking.
If it crash/bump/push starts fine, then there is every chance that while you are cranking the voltage at the coil/ignitor is dropping too low to produce and useful outputs.
