Unless you need a heavy duty race clutch, avoid them like a plague. They wear out quicker, wear drive line components quicker and are horrible to drive with.

Standard replacements from exeedy or daikin are really worth while and the price is right.

I got an Exedy extreme heavy duty clutch off Megatron for $600. Labour was like $700 to install which included gearbox oil flush.

So what are the longest lasting clutch packs? Most durable.

Are you serious??? I always thought heavy duty was meant to last longer.... Made of better quality etc...

Well the original clutch went on mine after about 145 thousand kms... I suppose thats pretty good, but im sure the owner never drove the car like i do. I have only had the new clutch in for 5 months and its already starting to shudder when i take off from a dead stop...

ive got an Exedy Heavy Duty clutch. got it from work (supercheap) for $200 or there abouts, cant remember exact price. installed for $300 by Megatrons mate. should last me 100,000kms. had to learn how to drive again when it was installed, stalled about 5 times leaving the place lol. i reckon its alot better than the standard one. no slippage whatsoever, but then again my last clutch was rooted!

TC is the voice of reason as usual.

my clutch lasted me 175 000 kms's i had owned the car since 90 000k's. clutchs do last if u know how to drive a manual!

heavier clutches grip more and as TC said put alot more strain on ur driveline regardless of weather u try to drive easy or not,

i dont see why u would need a heavier clutch until u are putting out big power, from memory a stock clutch can handle up to 180 atws.

personally i have no issues with my stocl c;utch it grips hard enough as is, plus i dont want a heavy one and put to much strain on the box as the car is ageing

i do know how good a heavy duty clutch can be though, the one in my s12 is basically ON/OFF and u can chirp any gear if u really try ....but its just not necissary in a near stock magna

Think of them as a brake pad, race pads will bite harder and stop you sooner, but they wear out quicker. Same deal with a clutch :)

Not entirely true, on a track, track pads will last much longer than street pads for obvious reasons. And I'm not convinced heavier clutches necessarily wear quicker, since they will generally use tougher materials than a stocker AFAIK.

The pressure rating determines how hard it "bites". Also with a harder clutch you spend less time slipping, so depending on how you drive it may last longer, AFAIK.

Either way, getting a heavy/agressive clutch is pointless unless you are making enough power so that a stock/light will slip too much and get cooked.

At work we have the Bendix Ultimate Brake pad and the Ferodo performance break pad. both are street pads, not track pads.
the bendix pads will wear down faster than the ferodo's as they are a soft compound break pad, they produce more dust but more stopping power. Ferodo are hard compound, and will wear down the disc more than the pad.

Recently replaced my factory fitted clutch on a 2nd gen, had done 230000km and still wasn't slipping and that included boat towing...it's all about how you use your left foot
