Hey people. Just got my springs changed.
I lowered the vehicle 2½ inches front and 1½ inches back.
But when i go over slight dips, the tyres scrub.
It has 17" ralliart wheels
I'm not sure if i need the guards rolled? Or the Suspension changed.

A little while ago the mechanic said i need to change the suspension (I also noticed my tyres wearing on the outisde only) but i never got around to doing so as most of the other money had gone into other parts of the car.

I did notice that it started having some tyre scrub once i upgraded to the 17"s (but wasn't lowered yet)
Now that it's lowered, it's tyre scrubbing quite a lot.

I just want to do something that will fix it for now.
Would this need new shocks? Or guards to be rolled?

I checked where it is rubbing and it is the plastic cover part under the wheel arch. Only a tiny bit on the arches (when turning full lock) but not much.

Also, one last thing, i noticed it happens most on the passenger side front wheel.
Not much on the drivers side. The photos show the tyre scrub marks on the plastic wheel arch inside covering.
There were no similar marks on the driver's side part.

Please help :sook:

hmmm you must have slammed your car big time cause most ppl have no problem running these rims and the vrx 17s on the their 2nd gens... could try a 234/45 tyre i guess if your tyres need changing

Naw I lowered it 2½ inch at the front and 1½ inch back so all the wheels just cover the arches and still have a bit of space.

I noticed some tyre scrub happening before it was lowered too.
Could be the shocks needing replacement you reckon?

The main problem is it's hitting the plastic splash shield inside guard (number 6 in the picture)
For a temporary fix until friday, should I take off the splash shield?
Can't hack the rubbing sound on a ditch it's so sharp.

If the tire is hitting your guards then you need your guards rolled. Are there marks on your guards? Maybe you could get a mate to stand on a corner, then go around the corner with a bit of vigour so as to get some body roll and see if it hits the guards. If it's hitting the actual splash guard inside the wheel well then I'd suggest you've probably lowered it too much or the tires are too tall.

Ok, mine hits the splash shield too. I have a 3rd gen. I found that the splash shield isnt in place properly. Sits too far back towards the wheel. And its missing a screw to keep it in place. This is the only reason its rubbing on the wheels and only when i turn.

That's a good point actually. When I got my new rims on the first part it started rubbing was the front of the splash guard on the front wheels. I simply cut the front part away that rubs on the tires and it was sweet.

yep i did exactly that too.

Just get a stanley knife dimi and slice away the plastic, of course first find out what plastic you have to cut away by turning your wheel to full lock either side.

Now mine only scrub on full lock. I think thats becuase my wheels are the wrong offset.

In that first pic... is that polished bit on the spring seat from where the tyre has been rubbing or is it just some junk reflecting? If that's from your tyre it's far too low lol

The polished part is the springs.
I took off the plastic splash shield and it still scrubs.

I know the shock absorber has died on that side, so if i replace it (or them) this should fix the problem right? Because i'm not getting any rubbing on the guards, just the clank noise on the passenger front side wheel when i go on a dip.

What you reckon?

I reckon it's probably a good idea to replace your struts if they're buggered. That's what I reckon. lol

Ok n00b question, are the struts the shocks?

I'm not sure if you can tell but in these photos you can see that it's not that low.

Sorry, yeah. Struts = shocks.

Oh i see... yeah i think it's them , because even when it wasn't lowered it was going BOOM when i go over dips.

Wonder how much a set of new front shocks would cost hmmm

Bugger all. Hit up the Phillcom Rally section, get yerself a couple of KYB shocks (might be an idea to do all 4 at once) Can't see them being much more than $400.

hmmm looks very similar height to mine if not lower... and i can't really describe how much heavier my engine is... yes i can at least 1.5 x SOHC weight or so.

My springs are only like 2months old though.

Haha i printed a photo of your car and took it to the place and said could you make the ride height of mine the same as the one in the photo :D
So i guess it's very similar to yours if not the same?

2½inch front and 1½rear. What are yours?

lol, you prolly have a photo when i had melted springs... it was close, i rkn it would've had a 3" drop in the front and probably the same in the rear, this was over time though as the illegal mods would've damaged the springs.

Now mine is on superlows all round, 2.5" drop, i think the back are superlows, it's about the same gap comparing old front to new front and old back to new back.

Sits noticably higher now but no scrubbing and i dont really have to worry about low stuff as much...
