Just had a guy tell me that he had a 2002 TJ (possibly TJ2) VR-X with a 3.8L. Apparantly it was an Olympic edition that had a 3.8L engine as an option, 5 sp auto with no tippy. Can any one confirm this with any proof.

no proof, but i doubt it happened, especially back in 2002 and there was no olympics in that year either lol

why would they 'option' a different engine size? that would be alot of effort!

maybe it was a 'special engine; put into a 'special car' for the 'special olympics' :)

Didn't happen. It's not a real car.

We did build a commonwealth games edition magna.

All it was was a tarted up base magna, colour coded with a gay rear spoiler and massive 16" alloys :bowrofl: plus some extra interior comforts. No larger engine or engine mods were done and definately no 5speed auto was fitted (that auto was only put into the sport/vrx/ralliart and the series2 veradas).

If any TJ model was going to have a 3.8L factory fitted it wouldve been the rallitart magna.

maybe the guy who had it before transplanted a ralliart engine and stuck it in

The 2002 model TJ you are referring to is the Commonwealth Edition not the Olympic one, there weren't any Olympics in 2002 lol . It was just a tarted up Executive and as for a 3.8 litre engine someone's been sniffing something toxic!

Nah he was the first owner, recons he bought it brand new. I told him he was full of monkey spunk because 3.8L only came in mitsi 380's from about 2006 on.

The advertiser coulda stuffed it up...

And whacked 3.8L on there cause thats what the Commo's have. Happens a fair bit. My mate was trying to tell me once that he was gonna buy a VU with a 'straight 6'. I told him, 'nah, your not man' and he said 'nah the dealer said it was a straight 6!'.

He didn't buy it, oddly enough.

The plant manager at MMAL had a 3.8 transplanted into his TL VRX. This car featured quite a lot in Motorkhana comps in SA. Some of you may have seen it as it had a harlequin paint job, sort of a gold color.

maybe the guy got it mixed up with the commodore olympic model, which was 3.8 (as all the vn-vy commodore v6's were)

No 3.8ltr sorry, would be nice but no. And for those who suggested it might have had a Ralliart engine, that's only 3.5ltr as well sorry!
Only the 380 had a 3.8ltr.

I think it would be a commodore he is refering too. There was a VT or VX cant remember which one that was an olympic or commonwealth games edition. I had one a few years back.
