i have a few neons and a few cffl tubes and im looking at putting one behind my grille as a bit of a laugh... just wondering if theres anything i need to do to make it waterproof? which would be better for the job? neons or cffl tubes?

Im pretty sure a neon would be better suited for that application as im pretty sure they are waterproof and dont need that inverter thingy CCFL's need.

Now if im wrong on this info anyone, feel free to correct me but from memory CCFL's use an inverter type thingy... even though they put out more light then a neon.

but yeah thats what i worked out... CFFL's need the special invertor which needs to be within a few CM and it cant get wet, neither can the actual rod.


Ill have a go at using neons for the job, they are cheap anyways

Buy a cheapo neon and silicon aorund the joins :)
Mate bought a set of non waterproof ones for the underneath and after siliconing around them all no problems yet even when driving through water!

As long as its not red or blue im pretty sure most exterior lighting is ok.

yeah neons. as the under car ones are neons and there water proof im doing this tomorrow but not hooking them up just running the wire to my dash cos im getting a switch soon to hook them up to. yes in nsw all neons are illegal when there on when driving.. but if ur parked there fine
