I know tyres have been done to death here and most seem to recommend performance tyres. What I'm after is a set of tyres for a KJ Verada that are quiet and comfortable without sacrificing safety.
Any recommendations and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

if theyre for stock rims i cant comment, but if they are for 17"+, i heavily recommend Kumho MA-V1's, i thought my old tyres were quiet but damn, cannot hear a thing from these :D

I spent ages researching this problem and at the end of they day the quietest tyre i could find were the stock Bridgstone ER30's that come with them.
This is why they are fitted to Rada's, Calais's, Statesmans and even replacment tyres for a lot of BMW's etc.

Yeah i will be the first to admit they arnt the best performance tyre but they are more than good enough for the standard person. If you want a bit more grip, maybe do what i did and go 225 55 16, which is slightly wider than stock whilst keeping speedo the same.
Much better grip but they come at a price.
For memory the 215 60 16's arew about $130 ea and the 225 55 16 are $200 ea.

i can recommend the michelin XM1 line - we have had these on both our Magna Executive and our Verada Wagons......in my opinion they are quiter than the stock tyres....

as stated, in my experience - michelin XM1 are quiter - we do alot of highway driving on course bitumen roads, and we noticed an immediated difference!

Wheels mag April 2007 has a Tyre Test of 205/55/16 tyres. I haven't read the article yet but there might be talk about which tyres they found to be the quietest. These are tyres they test.

Bridgestone Tuanza ER300 - $280
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx- $219
Falken ZE329 - $145
Goodyear Eagle F1 - $219
Hankook Ventus Sport K104 - $229
Pirelli P Zero Nero - $310

Hi, I'd like to support RalliArt_Magna02 & RicBec's opinions - They both recommend the Michelin XM1, and I'm using them on my TL AWD at the moment as well. Available readily in the 215/60/16 size for around $158 each fitted.

Extremely quiet and grip etc. are all good too. (These Michelins seem quieter than the standard-issue Bridgestone ER30's, but mine were quite worn!!)

I would also recommend the Toyo Transas-TEO-PLUS, and the Yokohama Aspec-DB A500. The A500 is very quiet but grip is poor.

Just my $0.02 anyway

Thanks for the input guy's. Just to clarify a few things, I am running standard rims so would be looking at 215.60.R16s. As for price I would be prepared to pay around $170.00 per tyre including fitting, balance and alignment.
So far it looks like the Michelin XM1s are the go. I have these on my list to check out along with Yokohama C Drives and Maxxis MA-P1.

Cheers

Black Beddy, XM1's are good.

The Yokohama C-drives are quite all right (only hearsay, haven't tried them myself) and the new A-drives are supposed to be pretty quiet.

Maxxis are supposedly a good all-round tyre, but they are made in China by Chengshan. Not saying it's a bad thing, but just so that you know

I'd stick with the XM1's

Michelin Preceda 234x45x17 @ $250 per corner....performance and quiet

Michelin Preceda Sports or Goodyear Eagle DS G3's.

Anything else is garbage.

I wondered where these were made but now I will be crossing these off my list.

Will have to look at those mitchy's.

Has anyone got those MX1's that are more than 3/4 worn?

The reason i ask is because i had Pirelli P6000's on my wagon and they were dead quiet and was wrapped with them and put them on all my Rada's when due.

COme 1/2 to 3/4 worn, they became so noisy it was unbarable so had to replace tyres before they were really due to the noise being unbarable.

Thats why i went back to the Turanza's ER30's because they are dead quiet until needing replacing.

Feed back on the mitchy's would be good too. Am also currently looking at continentals of some sort. They make a great tyre also which are now fitted to many prestiege euro stuff that needs handeling and comfort with quietness.

Well, today I made a couple of calls to my local tyre resellers and asked them the same question and both suggested the Dunlop SP Sport 300e. This tyre is within my price range so, is it any good? Have done a little research on the net but no real mention about noise levels or comfort.

Maxxis Z1s are a great tyre for the price, but they certinainly aren't quiet. In fact they are probably the loudest road tyres I've ever had.

I can vouch for Michelin XM1's, they were quite grippy and fairly quiet from memory.

I've got the Yokohama AVS V550 and they are real quiet plus WAY more grippy than I expected. I'll prob buy them again next time I need tyres too.

They are an ok tyre.. not as quiet as the michelin or goodyear..

I still wouldnt recommend them if youre after quiet though..

I second Bain's opinion : The Dunlop SP Sport 300E is OK but not a "quiet" tyre

naaa, nothing beats the AWD high spec Bridgestone G11's for loudness and hum, & @ $260 ea, I didn't get screwed, I was raped.

As "familywagon" has suggested, I have found Bridgestone Turanza's to be both the quietest and longest lasting tyre on magnas and veradas. I have only used the ER 30's, but these have been superceded by the ER300, I asssume they are of the same quality.
