hi all, im 17, just got a 94 magna for birthday. i live in Sydney, and need a decent sound system for the car. im not looking at spending mega $$$ but something reasonable would be nice. i dont want massive amounts of sound/bass, just something that i can pump up a little when needed and have a decent listen to. my music tastes are pretty much what JJJ plays, so most things except delta goodrem type stuff :/ anyway, i dont know anything about cars/stereos so would need a proffesional to install etc.
1st: who are the most reliable people in Sydney to go to for car audio?
2nd: whats a ballpark figure for how much i will be needing to spend?
3rd: what would you all reccomend? i'll make a list and take it to the dealer that you guys reccomend and between us will work out what to get
4th: what would you guys say to an Ipod or something similar in the dash instead of a cd/mp3 player?
any help would be great, as i'm a complete novice.
Daniel.
sorry, i'm placing this on all forums i can find that are magna related as i would like as many opinions as possible.

hey !nsane welcome mate. go check out the nsw section for info on whats happening in our great state! also where in sydney are you? if youve got a day free id be happy to help do your install. its a lot safer and easier and shit loads cheaper to do it yourself or have someone else who knows what their doing (me :D ) than to pay for it, and believe me in the car audio buisness they use the term "profesional" very very lightly! ive got a ts and have done all my own so i know exactly what your in for.

where d *** is cheerybrook?
If its near b-town...i recommend DORAN PRO AUDIO (www.doranproaudio.com.au) Those prices on the site are rough prices most of the time...tony will always knock em down. Like the TV n DVD im gettin off him...($1500 off)
his installs are top line...$90 for how eva long it takes. I had a TE...install took 3days (mainly test n tune) and how much...$90. Ive had 2 stereo installs and a few mates also...no probs.
On my commo i recently went somewhere more local for an install...NEVA AGAIN...
i highly recomend DORAN...and they are very up on the latest info!

Look no further than fhrx studio's in Kirrawee Sydney. The owner does some very sweet work with any budget. He will also beat or match just about any price however he only stocks:
a/d/s, Acoustic control (a.k.a Soundoff), Alpine, Audison, Becker, Boston Acoustics, Brahma, Clarion, Clif Designs, Diamond, Digital Designs, Dynamat, Dynaudio, Earthquake, Eclipse, Fusion, G-Spot Damping Harmon Kardon, Hertz, Hifonics, Infinity, Jaycar, JL Audio, Kenwood
Kicker, Nakamichi, Nesa, OZ Audio, Phoenix Gold, Pioneer, Polk Audio
Precision Power, Rainbow, Rockford Fosgate, Beva® enclosures
Schneider, Sony, Stinger, Streetwires, Tru Technology, Xtant & Zapco to name a few.
Give him a budget and he will get you some top quality gear. Visit www.fhrxstudios.com for a look at what he has done or e-mail him at fhrx777@bigpond.net :D [/url]

Yeah he does charge the flat rate of $60.50 per hour ( standard industry rate ) and custom installs can take days
Ha yeah have been around those kinda places and have gotten sweet as quotes off him for my mates.

hmm, if it costs that much i will have to get a quote off him, maybe get him to source the gear and then get someone a tad cheaper to install, its going to be a fairly standard install anyway. maybe it will only take him 2 hours to do, who knows.

sorry guys but im out of syd for that weekend, going camping at colo river with family and friends. thats ok! next one i should be able to drive myself!
Thanks for the nice comments guys, I appreciate them. :D
See the reason we do (how would you say it in modesty) better installs is that we take the time to do them correctly. And I mean take the time. Panels have to be right, staging has to be right, cable has to be right, everything has to be done right or it is re-done and re-done again until it is.
In regards to price, we charge a fair price for the amount of work we do. I can almost guarantee that the install in question will take around double the time you actually get charged, This is because I tend to get pedantic about quality. Like I've said to people before, I'm more than happy to reduce equipment prices dramatically, but we don't reduce labour because we stand by out installs and we are proud of our work.
You know the old saying about cheap installs; they're exactly that!
We have not lost a customer yet. ;)

yeah i'd recommend fhrx, as i am in the same position as u i.e wanted to install a system for around $1000 in my TH and fhrx were really friendly and seemed to be good for any budget. If you want info on what speakers to get etc, it might be a good idea to join car audio australia or drop into fhrx who were good.

what percentage of your budget was taken up by the installation if you don't mind me asking?

um with the installation and stuff mine was just an enquiry with fhrx to find out what it would cost me for my package. i intend to get it done in a month or two . But basically wanted a alpine head unit 400 odd and boston speakers plus a bit of sound deadening, so i am assuming installation would have been around 200 odd, but thats a very rough figure so yeah i could be way off. Sorry i couldnt be of more help. I thought they were ok cause i went to some other audio stores and they were very dodgy and tried to charge me $1000 for a verada head unit to be installed (the head unit is $500 from eurovox)
