View Full Version : Hi I'm Jamie, I'm new and this is my Magna :)

Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Jamie and I live in Darwin, NT. I own a 1995 TS Magna. Funny story behind me getting the car... It happened to be the family car and I'd never really thought much of it. A mate was selling a set of chrome rims and I loved them. Basically out of the 5 cars we had, the Magna was the only one that would fit the rims so I took it over. I then found this awesome site and after seeing a few nicer rides I'm inspired to do some modifications to my own.
Here are some shots of the car before I took the wheel :-

I can't believe I'm saying this but MAGNAS ARE HOT!
I have alot of ideas for this which I'm going to take in stages.

Most of those are on the list, inspired by many of the cars on display here :)
Tint is going to be redone as it is peeling and the Exhaust is definately high up there, actually I've already got a quote. Was quoted $450 for a Redback or $350 for an instore custom made one, both of which are cat back.
Too many mods I want done to list lol, will just keep posting them as I do them.
Btw just finished reading through about 12 pages. Learn alot from this site :D

Makes a lot of difference removing the roof racks and tow bar. With your exhaust make sure it's mandrel bent, otherwise go another half inch in size or you may be going to something more restrictive than factory with press bent (eg 2" press bent will actually end up being something like 1.7 at the bends). oh and hi Jamie, my name is Nick and I like long walks on the beach and candle lit dinners... :shifty:

I dont think a cut and polish will fix that boot of yours, but you could try.
Also i would cancel that order or lows in the rear, Just get superlows all round mate..
Welcome :)

You haven't been able to get superlow's for the rear of 2nd gens for ages now.. unless they're custom.
Jamie

Yeah I couldn't find superlows for the rear so just settled with lows. Should be fine though, the rear seems to sit noticably lower than the front anyway. Should match up fine.
Also the car has 190,000kms but runs perfectly and has so for the entire time we've owned it. Only one owner before me and serviced regularly. Purchased from a friend of a family member. Very very pleased magna owner :D
So far I've decided to focus on the exterior mods. I'm trying to keep the mods small but effective. Went into Mitsubishi today and ordered some 380 clear side indicators, for some reason they only had 1 side in stock :bowrofl:

You might want to give it a hit with a clay bar and some swirl remover before you cut and polish. I've got the same paint as yours and mine was utterly shocking when I bought my wagon, but after 9 hours of detailing and two dead arms, it looks schmick.

Debadge too :)With the chrome rims, maybe REbadge instead with chrome TJ badges? About $50 new (can't see the left badge, is it Executive?), or you could possibly get lucky and find one at a wrecker's to debadge.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Some plans for the long distant future :-
- Full Respray
- Body coloured bumpers (Yep I'm keeping them) + Colour coding mirrors etc
- KS Tailights + Paras
- 380 clear repeaters + clear indicator mod for the front
- Some nice dark tints
- Full exhaust
I want it to stand out but for the right reasons. Will eventually have a nice simple paintjob with chrome highlights.
Also, I'll be debadging but will keep an eye out for some nice badges that may suit in the future :)

Oh I gave it a basic cut and polish today and it came up a treat! Obviously it was never going to fix the faided and sundamaged paint but it has improved. I'd say improved about 10x better :) Even just the wash I used brought back some of the colour and shine in the paint, I can actually see some glittery bits (never seen before) lol
And I'm guilty for being a bit ricey... I whacked on some chrome around the wheel arches  IMO it adds some class to it :D

Most the guys here know, i'm totally against bling and chrome. But that actually looks cool! (Can't believe I said that).
It looks nice! It suits the wheels!
Definitely needs a good dropping though. But, that chrome around the arches makes it look good! Something about it! Suits the car colour too haha

pix look good. chrome wheelarches actually match, just lower it and your set for looks.

Kero did used to work well and was used alot many years ago... its great at removing road grime, but will also remove any wax or paint sealant on the car. But that was then & this is now... stick to a propper car shampoo.

Kero is fine if you have a lot of grime even in todays finishes, many new car detailers use it to get off the factory wax sealant.
You do however need to then wax and polish it after to get the paint protected.

Quick tip Jamie, you should be able to pick up spare pre-coloured side strips from a wreckers for under $20, doesn't matter if the colour doesn't match yours, it'll save some of the sanding to get a smooth finish, and will give you all the time you need to mess around without having to drive around in a naked car in the meantime!

Kero is fine if you have a lot of grime even in todays finishes, many new car detailers use it to get off the factory wax sealant.
You do however need to then wax and polish it after to get the paint protected.
Using kero on modern paint is dodgy... people used to use it many years ago when 99% of cars were only single stage lacquer painted.
also remember the exterior of a car isnt just made up of painted surfaces, there are alot of other exterior materials to take into consideration.
Instead of using kero, prepsol (or similar) should be used.. and is what most decent detailers use.
Jamie, cant wait to see her dumped!! :D
When ya get the rada tail lights, make sure you get the KS ones, the KR ones have the chrome strip down the centre and doesnt match up as well with the TS boot garnish.. unless you add a chrome strip to that too. :D
Also.. buy a new muffler or get a pair of chrome tips.. looks soooo much better imo.

I was actually thinking of getting the KR ones with the strip as I'm thinking about getting my boot shaved and plates moved and filled. I've seen it on another gen 2 on here and it looked hot as! Also my mate might be able to get his dad to do it for me cheap (but still good quality) :) Think that might be the next step after the lowering.

As its been cut & polished now I wouldn't do it again! May make the paint too thin...
You should definitely polish it with a reasonable quality protective polish now, it won't take any more paint off and will protect the paint that is there. Also it may make it even shinier ;).

Diamante grille is for sale here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47638), so cheap! and it comes with the parabolic headlights so you'll have a pretty nice setup going if you do, plus its chrome, so it will match your wheels.

I did no prep work, didn't have any plastic primer etc I just sprayed over it with a spray can and suprisingly it came out beautifully! Looks really good in person and improves the front end alot. I'm still planning on a new grill but in the meantime this one looks nice.

Or instead of buying a new bar, you could do something similar to what some of us have done, and make it a letterbox grille by removing the slats in the middle and i think Tuff it was you that removed the all the middle entirely. And then if u want to do more, you can fill over the Mitsu symbol with some bog and give it a sand back, then paint it for real, add some grill mesh and your set! lol thats whats on the books for project magnahaul, btw the diamante grille looks hot as well!
Cheers,
Adz

I don't think I'm good enough to do my own letterbox grill :) Mesh at the front looks hot as! but overall I think the diamante will suit my car better.
I have a little project for the weekend too. Hopefully it all works out and I'll have something to show yas on sunday/monday
imo, find a set of diamante front lights, indicators and grill.
looks hot.

Photos will be up tomorrow. Just spent all day putting the springs in and had some dramas compressing them to get them in lol Ended up going to Independant Motormart and investing in some Spring Clamps (best money I've ever spent) :D Car sits oh so beautifully now. The back looks like it was always meant to be and the front is a major improvment (it could sit lower but I'm happy with the way it is).
Also just for fun, my sisters b/f (who did the springs) decided to hook up his sony 444w amp and 2 kenwood subs in my car just for giggles. It actually sounds awesome, the bass fills up the cabin really nicely and can even go too loud :) Could do with some speakers though as all I've got is a set of stock 4"s :bowrofl: I have plans for a massive system of my own soon.
Oh and we picked up the Sony 444w (4 channel) Amp for only $50 at Cash Converters BARGAIN!

I've decided paras are my next priority. Need help finding a well priced set now. Will have cash ready thursday. Changed my mind about the diamante grill, have some other ideas in mind (involving bodykits)
Try and either get the verada indicators, or tint your current ones - they look funny with parras and the regular indicators.

Yeah planning to tint them :D I read somewhere on here about the dark film tape that people were using to tint their taillights. Would that be illegal for the front indicators?
tinting stuff is a bit iffy, usually illegal i believe. Either check with your local transport authority, or just do it (What's the chance you'll be pulled up on it?)
Try and either get the verada indicators, or tint your current ones - they look funny with parras and the regular indicators.
not always, my old 2nd gen had a set of paras and the standard magna indicators- even with the orance refelctor in it still, looked ok to me
i suppose its a matter of opinion then, i just flat out do not like the way it looks.
lol ok, to be honest i was gonna get a pair of 'rada indicators but never got around to do it :( also i got kinda used to the look of the standard indicators
Jamie
30-04-2007, 06:12 PM
I have to agree that the rada indicators suit the paras best... however I'm still not a fan. If I had to choose between paras and clear indicators then I'd choose the clear indicators. Luckily for me tinting is an option and tinted indicators plus paras ftw :D

If anyone is wondering why I haven't done anything else yet... well it's because the magna has decided it doesn't want to start anymore :( It's not the battery or anything, think it's the alternator or starter motor. So at the moment my $$$ are going into getting her back up and running.
While I'm spending the dollars I think I'll get the brakes done and the tint redone.
dude. Where does all your money come from??

Well after almost being tempted to the dark side (I was thinking of selling and buying a skyline), I've decided to direct all funds into the Magna again.
After a few bills are paid i'll be looking at doing the following:-
- Windows Retinted
- Diamante Grille and Lights
- Verada Rear Lights
- Custom Front Bodykit and Sideskirts
- Boot Shaved
- Custom Rear Bodykit
- Respray and Colour Code
- Alarm with Remote Start (yay for auto)
- Sound System with CarPC
Those are the big plans for the next few months! Let's hope things don't change because it's going to be hawt! :D
