Hi all - i now have a P plater caning my pride and joy on the weekends whilst i take my time in finding my new work car and he went and got himself pulled over for having one headlight on Fri (yes its been out for over a week but i jsut never got around to fixing it and ive driven past hundreds of cops with it showing but none of them ever pulled me over....)

Anyways the big problem is the reversing lights dont owrk at all - now the globes work but there isnt any power getting to them - is there a fuse that i dont know about or is it somehting more sinister than that? Btw its a TN SE EFI if that makes any difference...

shame shame, someone getting in trouble for something you knew of :P
hope you paid the fine if one applied.

anyway, is it an auto or manual

simply sounds like the reverse light switch on the gbox isn't activating, either dead or unplugged or something.

He was warned when he took it out so it was up to him - and no fine was applied so no harm done...

Its a manual so where would the plug be? as silly as it sounds its not inside is it? The only reason why i say that is because i recently put a stereo in and could well have knocked it unknowingly...

EDIT: could some post a link to a pic too so i can find it a bit easier...

on the manual box there are two gear shift cables

one has to be the reverse selector
there should be a sender unit with 2 wires near that location

screws into the box

test that unit or the wires running to it to see if it has continuity or voltage

Sorry to be silly but where about are these cables - on the inside? please tell me that they are so that i dont have to get under the wretched thing again!

At the driver's side of the gearbox at the front of box, you will see 3 identical plugs in a vertical line, reverse switch is just above. :)

yes you will
open the bonnet again and look for the selector cables

if it is EFI you may not see them because of the air filter tin can and battery:cry:

The reversing light switch from memory is on the left hand side near the front. The top is black and should have a plug with 2 wires.

Chances are the switch is rooted, you would probably find if you pulled it out the bottom of it would be worn. Around $80 for a genuine one from Mitsu or I think $50 from Ringwood Auto Parts (rwap on ebay)
