Hi All,
I have purchase a new fuel sender for my Ralliart Magna (TJ), has anyone tried to install one of these and have a step by step process?
I would be grateful for any help.
PS. If you need a fuel sender, my local dealer has 12 in stock.
Cheers! Evan
Pull your back seat out, theres a finger pully thingo on each side.
4 screws I think undoes the plate covering the fuel tank.
Pull the wiring loom off.
Pull the fuel line off. You have to squeeze it, put it forward then pull it back and off. Have a rag ready to catch any petrol that will drip out.
Undo the 6 screws and lift out the fuel pump/fuel sender assembly from the tank. Bit of a wiggle, careful not to get the float caught.
Undo then swap the fuel sender unit, two wires you have to remove.
Same process in reverse to put it back in. Trickest bit is getting it back into the tank.
Wont take you more than 20 mins even if you're not handy at cars.

For mine the clip holding the fuel line in place was a pain to unclip. I had to pop a small flat head screw driver at the top and move it away from the pump unit to make the clip pop off. Otherwise it a pretty easy job.

Yeah that is the hardest bit. Squeeze, forward and back will work if you do it hard enough.

Be careful not to ruin the clip aswell. I did and now mines held on with a cable tie, some tape and half a tube of silicone :)

Hi All,
Well after 45 minutes, and your very helpful instructions, including the flathead screw driver trick, I installed the new fuel sender and it works perfectly.
Thanks heaps. Evan

also undo the fuel cap to relieve some pressure.
and unclip the fuel lines last, so further pressure can escape through the rubber seals

MISSED A STEP HERE: START THE ENGINE TO USE UP THE FUEL IN THE SYSTEM. WHEN ENGINE STALLS, GO TO NEXT STEP

Nothing to be scared about, you really can't get anything wrong. There's no really hard steps, pulling the fuel line off is the only fiddly bit. If you get stuck doing something then just put everything back together :)

hmmm interesting.. im pretty sure this is what causes my fuel guage not to work, thing is though it does work when the tank is full, but after bout 10l of fuel is used it goes staight to empty.. am i correct in presuming that replacing the sender unit or is there something else needed to fix this?

you might have a hole in the float or it could be just a loose wire
has the cluster been pulled out?

Which is why i think this really decent family car not being sold due to this kind of disappointing authorised dealer support & why I will not have my AWD serviced at mitsubishi.
