hey guys
the fuel tanks all fixed but now my car has some other odd issue - portside tightened the handbrake last week but ive noticed it still refuses to grab hold of the car unless its RIGHT up at the hilt, and even then it seems to still roll a bit (gotta put it in first when parked to ensure i dont roll into a ditch)
they said the rear brake shoes were worn, would i need these replaced to get full handbrake function back again? really sucks not having a handbrake and sitting at lights on hills...gotta balance the clutch :P

Haven't you had your question/problem already answered? Get some new handbrake shoes?
Or don't you believe them?

my back right wheel dosent lock up at all and like you others i have to pull the lever up so tight for it to actually stop rolling on a hill.! Does your make a terrible sound when driving slow too? like a strangled cat? ive asked 2 places to fix it and i still have the same problem!!
Don't know if you guys already know this, but try taking out the console thing where your handbrake is and tighten the two nuts that balance the left and right handbrake cable. That should lock your handbrake properly. Mine locks in two clicks :D

its more of a question that im asking how much this will cost, and whether its a tough job or not.
theyve already tightened the handbrake cable, seems to have done nothing.

You need to pull your rear disks off and check that the pin inside the handbrake actuating cylinder is in place. Fixed mine doing this - there is a handbrake thread elsewhere that I have put a diagram of the pin and cylinder in previously.

okay well the pin was reinserted a while ago now and it works fine when my nose is facing upward on a hill and i pull the brake on.
but when im facing downward, it doesnt do jack, i just keep rolling forward. what the hell? only really noticed this the other day when i was waiting at a set of traffic lights facing downhill (adelaide is not a hilly city :P)
is this another pin or something that portside have neglected to change or should i just get the new rear shoes and cables and be done with it (i.e. will this fix my issue)
been so busy with assignments and exams my poor car's just been sitting there :(

i also had the same problem rolling foward and not backwards. got to mechanics to have a look and the couldnt fix it. So i gave it ago myself.
you need to back the hb cable under the consile off to nothing
then remove back wheels and u will see a hole or a cap between two of the wheel studs
using a flat head screw driver u will be able leaver the ajuster up or down untill it touches.
then back it off a bit till u cant here it when spining
put wheels back on and reajust the cable to suit in the consile
this should fix your problem!!!!

i dont have the tools, time or expertise to check this out myself unfortunately. when i take it in for a coolant/brake fluid flush i'll tell them to have another look at it i guess...:(
take it to a mechanic tell them to loosen the cables in the center console then adjust the shoes in the rear. then readjust the cable.
8 times out of 10 adjusting the cable does nothing it need adjusting at the shoes.\
the shoes should not be worn out unless its been driven with the handbrake left on or its been realy over adjusted

I was looking for a way to do this - would you mind giving a few pointers as to how far you tightened yours and how you got the handbrake sheath off?
