Hi everyone.

I have been a member of this forum for a while now but now i have a problem that i would like your advice on. I own a 3rd gen 4cyl 2.4L magna and the other night the timing belt broke. now ive had my mate (an experieced mechanic) look at it and he thinks that the engine is not worth saving.

Now my question is, is it really worth it buying a new 4 cyl motor (dont want to put 6 cyl in cause it is to much changing other stuff like computer and rego) or should i just sell the car for parts and look into buying (getting loan) for a better faster magna 6 cyl.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ben

Question is how much are you willing to spend?

A replacement 2.4 engine (if you can find one) would be less than $1000 easily, then if your mate can do it cheap then your good to go.

Otherwise a faster V6 would cost at least $3500 and thatd be for a ****ty old TE with high KM.

Personally Id repair the 2.4 if it were my car.

As above i'd get a new engine put in (esp. if your mate can help out). You won't get more than $1000 selling the car for parts, so it wouldn't really be worth it if the rest of the car is in good condition.

If its a 4 banger, you could probably sell it for a bit of $$$ if you get it running in good condition (motor and what not) since fuel prices are on the way up again, people are after 4 bangers, so I would repair it if you can (Your mate might be biased towards magnas, so check some other joints too)
