Hi All

Newbie here...

I have a strange fault - When I open the boot the light comes on, but then as the boot opens to it's fullest extent the light goes off... When I strt to close the boot I see the light flash on again momentarily before it is fully closed. If the car is locked and the alarm set this causes the alarm to activate as I shut the boot...

My car is a 2002 Verada Xi with a lined boot cover - I've pulled this off and looked inside the lock and also along the hinges - Mtsubishi certainly have hidden this thing well...

I have done basic search and found old articles but I am still struggling to find where the boot light switch is (The one that make the light come on inside the boot when opened..) Can anyone provide a description or pictures... Many Thanks

If there is a an electrical cable running along with the boot release cable then switch is in the lock like TJ says. Common fault is a break or intermittent in the cable where it flexes around the hinge area.
Try jiggling the cable around that area.

Some service info says the switch is at the back of the rear seat which means some dismantling to look for something that might not be there

Check the wiring on the RHS down near the hinge on the chassis, my wires had worn where Mitsu had put a cable tie, had to rejoin/resolder them and all was fine.

Very lightly the wire is touching other contacts. If you are lucky is the ground wire causing it. BTW the wire to the boot lock is Negative (-) I just redone my boot wire(+) which was faulty causing my boot light not to light up at all. the ground wire connects to the boot lock and wire along the boot frame to the right hand corner where there is a relay.

4 wires if i am not mistaken, one pair for the boot light and another for the tail light.
