I just ported my subs, and in doing so, had to remove my carpet from the box. now its all bear wood. Any idea on what i should do to trim this? Ive been thinking of making a fibreglass facia, or just carpeting it all again. Im open for ideas.

i needed he airspace in the box, so i had to turn them around. It worked well. the box is right on the minimum size for porting, so i turned them around to make them bigger.

did you properly port it or just cut a hole in it and put in some pipe?

i reckon grab some black vinyl or a colour of your choice
make it look real nice ;)
carpet for hard wearing, cheap, easy to trim, and easy to keep clean.. personally i would use cardbard, make a template to cover the entire space across the face of the sub box, to the edges of the boot (with cutouts for the boot hinges), and trim it in vinyl, suede, leather, carpet or the trim of your choice (also known as a beauty board)
takes a bit to get it just right, but by far the neatest looking solution.

That will be a little dificult inmy car, as its a hatchback, i'd have to do a top section some how. But still a good idea, very easy materials to work with.
Im begining to think, White vinal, lit by Blue neon, trim the entire boot. nice and simple, clean lines.

I have 2 in my comp and they light up everything white in my room, its so nerdy lol
I reckon just stick with carpet IMO, ive done fluff and vynal and now gonna carpet, the other two were just too much screwing around

and here i thought tuff would say 2 do fluff all the way :P
One of the cheapest ways to highlight a boot (which is a method we use all the time) is to simply construct a face plate for the subwoofer(s), router the edge and paint it the same colour as the car.

It's neat, gives the boot a highlight and doesn't cost the earth.:D

fluff and more fluff.. hehe
fluff is the nastiest way to get it to look good (as in, it can make the dodgiest install look good)
as for it being a hatch, you could still easily make it look good, if you were to mount amp(s) on a board directly above the box, then you could make a trim panel to sit flush with the top of the amps, and another butt up to it for the face of the subs.
i drew you a paint demonstration!1

hopefully the end result would be a bit less ghetto than my demo, and less stick figurish :)

You sir, are a legend. You gave the best ideas, and now i just to get some matterial.
The top will feature The monoblock imbedded into the top of the box, with the ports either end of the amp, all trimmed in white vinal, with a blck section in the center between the subs
I will post updates as i go.

After having anouther quick look at my boot, ive discovered that i will need to build my install around a rear strut brace that i forgot i had. still, i recon it will look sweet, i might even turn the brace into a highlight of the install

i have been told that if u mount ur amp to ur box it can ***k up the amp and evan make the wiring inside the amp come loose and stuff from the virabration but iduno if its true or not so try and look into it

you could always put it on rubber stoppers or similar to absurb the virbrations if your that worried

Ive always had my amps mounted to the box, ive never had an issue.
nearly complete designs!
(have an open mind, im not very good with paint)

it will be trimmed in white vinal, withe the peice between the subs in black vinal, prefuribly the same looking stuff as the leather of my seats. the subs are staying reversed, and the amp will be on top. the ports will be either side of it, and i may dress them up with chrome.
i will use either UV or blue neon, depending on what works better.

get some marine carpet. hard wearing water proof and is good againsts (sp?) uv light . oh and if u cover it it will cut the prep time in half as apossed to fiber glassing it . all that time sanding to get it smooth and to take out any pin holes. easyer to cover it but doesn't look as good as fg but thats my opinion.:D
ps. if your looking for idea's/help this site is amazing. have a look around at the projects to get the creative juices going. or just look in the woofer box section to see what others have done
http://www.fiberglassforums.com/
hehe your paint pic is better than mine, but yea imo thats the best way to do it :)
in regards to amps on sub box.. if your running an spl system it can be an issue, but for most daily beaters there isnt a worry.. but rubber stops are always a good idea

make a bandpass box. that way youve got the space and also protect your subs

no, its ported probly using a program i found.
where can I get such a program. I have wanted to correctly make my own sub box for ages
there is NO program that can accurately plot a sub, they mean nothing after you feed them more than 1W RMS, and they dont account for cabin gain.
all are good for is telling you what size to make your box and port to achieve a certain tuning frequency. for port tuning i use WinISD, or the CAA Enclosure Calculator which is a lot more simple to use.
SMJ_276

so therefore you make the box in accordance with CAA then adjust the port it in the car to suit the sound you like???

I think after you carpet it, you can use the fact that the subs are inverted to your advantage. Get some leds, put them around the surrounds of the subs, and get them to flash in time with the bass. I reken it would look bling
Even better, get a whole head of small red leds, and put them together in the shape of the mitsi badge. Get them to bang wit the music :D

DO NOT STRAP AMP TO SUBBOXES!!
learnt my lesson .. my subs f%$#ed my amp .. they vibrated .. the av ports till they didnt work .. so now my amp dont go near the sub .. wasnt a cheap amp really either ($800).. so pissd
