loud with pro sound quality
dls, image dynamics, focal, boston, dynaudio, becker, nakamichi, tube driver, milbert, morel, vifa, a/d/s, arc audio, ppi, peerless, digital designs, treo... the list goes on
Focal, Hertz, CDT, JL, Boston, and about a billion other brands :P
give us a budget, what you want out of the system, musical preferences, and preference in subs etc (if you have one), and we can work it out a lot better from there.

just think of every brand you possibly can, they all have a "competition" section to their line up, i dont like to use the word competition though, i could go buy a $20 set of boss speakers and use them in a competition... doesnt make em good though, i like to use the term "high end" or "cost a f*cken sh*t load" haha

including install? what do you want to buy out of your budget? 2 subs? 1 sub? mono and a 2channel? 2x 2 channels? please be a bit more specific.... i could reccomend you a high end set of focal splits... but then you'd be left with about 700 bucks

id be looking at something like this
nakamichi HU or alpine
MB Quart/Focal/Hertz splits
dont worry about rear fill
then go say a Rockford/Hertz/Focal sub
i was pretty dissapointed with the Alpine type X sub to be honest
think he's misusing the term 'competition' quite a bit.. from the sounds of it he isnt after what is considered to be a 'winning sq system' as such, as a damn nice system. nothing like Nak, im sure he will want to play mp3's :P
3.5k i would be looking at:
A deck up to $800, Alpine and Eclipse come to mind
$800 on front speakers (Focal K2P, Hertz Mille, Boston Pro60)
$550 on a sub (Oz Audio Matrix Elite is probably the best contender)
$250 Dynamat bulk pack (ebay spec)
$150 on cabling
$1100 to share between the amps (Alpine or whatnot)

sorry didnt read:P well 3.5k ay get some of the worlds best subs the square kickers 500 each for 12" get two and a MEGA amp and ur laughing
3.5 isnt much of a budget if you go buying big on just subs :S follow what i said as rough guidelines and youll have a fairly nicely rounded system that will go loud and sound damn good in the process :)

scotty, ur in perth so take a drive to Alberts Morley, theyre clearing the old model eclipse decks.
CD7000 is the top deck, used to retail for $1k, every feature, great SQ, great brain to run ur system off, selling now for $650! leaves u with some more cash to spend on the rest :) (thats if ur ready to buy now anyways) i have the 8445 unit, 2nd top one from the models before it, great decks hey!

buy the cheapest HU u can with sub out, then buy the jaycar 1500 monoblock then buy the most powerful DD sub you can buy. Put it on maximum volume and press play... viola, instatnt deafness... no need for anymore good speakers :P
