i was driving along about 110 down the highway in 5th. the car felt like it just cut out then went normal again everything was fine. as i take the exit it wont come out of 5th no matter wat i tried. so started it up and went to take off in 5th but it popped out. drives 1-4 but will not go into 5th or reverse now.

as i drive in 1st theres the high pitch whine now and goes through 2nd aswell

would it be the diff or the gearbox ??

ran perfect for the time since i got my car back then just did this tonight on the way home

drain oil out look for metal on the magnetic drain plug

change oil look for brass filings

maybe a c clip came out of its retainer briefly or syncro decided to wizz out of place

recheck selector cable adjustment and go from there

re bleed clutch master and slave

all mounts ok ?

Sounds like box not diff... If it is diff it will only do it when ya turn.. Ive done three diffs now and they go fine in a straight line but go past 1/4 turn and you get massive clunks, will fell like you ran over a house brick..:P

Good luck at the workshop dude.. FWD drive boxes are so ****..:P

are the 5spd manual boxes crappy? Ive noticed mine can get notchy at times. Thinking of rebuilding, but with 3.5 ratios and a 3.5 motor.

How much $$$$ does it cost to get a gearbox rebuilt? anyone know?
Iv been having a bit of trouble with my 1st and 2nd gear, dont even bother trying to put it into 1st when the car is moving!!! and i also get the odd crunch into 2nd, iv been told its my inputsharft bearing, does that sound right?

Wouldn't be worried about the clutch as much as I would the diff... excellent way to make one go bang.

well seeing as though a 2nd hand box is around $1200 these days then its about another $400 to swap them over a rebuild is looking my better option at the moment. gonna see some ppl bout it monday morning see if i can get it any cheaper
