my dads old verada crapped itself last year. it was a KF. we got it to a dealer after finding the oil was black(clutch packs gooone) and was $2100 for a factory remanufactured box with two year 40000km warrranty. Make sure when you are looking for a box that you have all the numbers from the old one found next to where the (if you have one) filter screws on. The numbers represent the gears and final drive ratio. you may get one from a wreckers, we found it hard cos the verads have a dif. final drive ratio to the normal 4 spd.(computer wont recognize box if different)

Thats only coz the Veradas in the KE/KF were 3.5L where as the rest of the TE/TF were only 3L... From KH onwards you shouldnt have a problem with finding a tranny for a 3.5L.

if it were a first gen auto I would rebuild the box for you
(where I get all my supplies from)
only place i would ever go to
tell them your from the aussie magna club
the oil pump is just behind the torque converter
only time you know thats broken is if you dont have reverse or drive at all

not the only reason...i found 3 TJ 3.5 4 spd auto non tippy with numbers not matching while searching wreckers. it is the final drive ratio that made the difference. If the final drive does not match up the atm ecu will go into limp home mode. but yes would have been diff being a verada.
try your numbers with this box http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mitsubishi-Magna-TL-TW-Automatic-Transmission-NEW_W0QQitemZ120106882200QQcategoryZ10400QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem

usually you would take the pan off and inspect the filter first and the fragments left in the magnets on the pan
dont usually do V6 stuff but if money an issue
if you were willing to help
it would cost you less .........take a few days more maybe

we could take the box out check it
if needed fit a torque converter and oil pump /a second hand box ?

If it costs you that much, might as well get a second hand gearbox, or convert to manual.

it could be the spline on the torque converter, in which case will cost me a grand to fix.
a new torque converter and installation, new tranny fluid, and a full gearbox service
