View Full Version : Blowing ignition fuse. Stranded Outside...
Hey guys, I have left my magna camping at a far place from home tonight. I have brought 4 30A ignition fuses with me tonight and they all blew in my face. While retrying the fuses, I've disconnected the headunit/amp, ignition was OFF then I put in the fuse, but it BLOWS the second the fuse sits in!?!? (THIS IS THE ENGINE BAY IGNITION FUSE)

I've seen this problem like this on a motorbike, the insulation on the winding on the alternator had failed, causing a short circuit.
Stop blowing fuses; use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the positive and negative cabling after the fuse. The resistance may be low, but it should not be zero. Unplug fuses, and then equipment, until the resistance is above zero. Put fuses and connections back, checking as each connection is made, until the problem is found.

Thanks Ken, But the alternator has an insulation? Can you show me where it is?
I just went to pay a visit to my magna, it appears that none of my power/acc wires are exposed at all from the connection of my headunit... instead of using those proper ignition fuses (since they cost like $5 each, I've used the small blade fuses to test... But it STILL BLOWS!
If I don't get some help soon, I gotta end up towing it back...
Ok, Fuse No.19 (Ignition Fuse) Blows the second I put something in there, I have no key in the barrel and nothing plugged in. I've taken out most the fuses that aren't needed in the Fuse Box thats essential to start the car. The problem had gotten worst. Fuse No.19 blows the second I put a fuse in.
Can someone tell me where to look at?
Thanks.
Nevermind guys!
Fixed the prob- It was just a wiring (positive) that made contact with the chassis.
Thanks for all the help! Top Blokes!
