Hi, i have a 1989 manual TP elante which has a problem (i know, as the title says :p).

When i take off in any foward gears, the car shudders uncontrollabily however when in reverse, it works perfectly.

Initially, due to the poor peformance of the car I replaced plugs, leads, fuel filter, AFM and throttle body, new clutch and just before the problem started, a new driveshaft/cv joint on drivers side (however all seem to be okay).

I am wondering if anybody has had similar problems or if any ideas can be thrown about?

Cheers all

Pyrus.

Might be the engine mounts.

Troubleshooting from haynes manual:

Grabbing (chattering) as clutch is engaged:

- Oil on clutch plate lining, burned or glased faces
- Worn or loose engine or transaxle mounts
- Worn Splines on clutch plate hub
- Warped pressure plate
- Burned or smeared Reson on flywheel or pressure plate

does it do it all the time or just as it loads? sounds like slipping clutch or somthing major fubar in the box imho

off topic: just noticed my post count 523 only came here to find out how to convert to a digital dash and that never happened :P

hydraulic clutch master cylinder or slave may not be to the pressure(air in system )
try rebleeding that

look for a bent throw out bearing fork they may break at the pivot point

cant rule out the clutch plate springs or bent prongs on the pressure plate

nothing is perfect the recon ones do fail but not often

try checking the tension of the pressure plate bolts see if they are still tight

New clutch, who fitted it and was the fly wheel machined and also was the pressure plate tightened evenly? Was the throw out bearing greased on the slide and most important was the height of the pivot bolt measured and corrected for wear?
