The other night at 1am my car wouldn’t start. I tried to push start in gear 2 but it didn’t start, I got it towed home and the racv bloke said it’s an electrical fault. He disconnected the battery and the car started. Later I tried to start it but it wouldn’t. I disconnected the battery and it did.

The auto elec tested the ecu and no faults came up. The car cranks but it just wont start, its not a constant problem but at the mechanics it was fine. Now if u play with the key eventually the car will start.

There is also an serious idle problem, it mostly idles at 400rmp and turns off or 1500rpm. The car also sometimes turns off as I’m slowing down approaching an intersection.

Now I have been told that it could be a crack angle sensor or distributor. Mitsubishi said it was an immobilizer and that the throttle body needs to be cleaned, and said the idle problem is a result of a the reset of the ecu, IS THAT TRUE?
ANY IDEA WATS WRONG WITH THE CAR?????????

The immobilizer sounds about correct. It's going to be annoying to fix really. As for the stalling, try adjusting the idle screw. I have no idea where it's located, but it sounds like its set up wrong.

Hope this helps some.

my guess is that its the colent temp sensor!
well it seems to have the same problem that mine did and as soon as this sensor was fixed it runs awesome!
promblem with the diognostics is that you need to make sure that its a old tester thing cos the newer ones dont pick up all the faults.

i haven't touched the idle screw, so could it be the case?
it started playing up on me after the insident, and if its just a screw i'm not sure if thats right?

correct me if wrong though

Like the car dies, pretty much when ever i let go of the accelerator! one of my mates reckons that its a fuel injector problem! COULD IT BE IT?

i don't think its an immbolisier problem as both of the faluts occured at the same time

sounds similar to a problem i had a while back.

had the car not start on occasions and on other occasions would turn off approx. 10 minutes after starting (regardless of idle or driving).
yeah, also got a guy to check the ECU and no faults.

asked around and had suggestions of: fuel pump, fuel injector, distributor, immobilizer, and transponder.

you wouldn't have happened to have tested a new key in your car lately have you?

^ this was also suggested to me, so you may want to check up on this also

I had the exact same problem and exact same symptoms a few years ago on the TP I owned at the time. It had an aftermarket immobiliser on it. We tried all kinds of fixes including distributor, leads, TB, injectors, idel motor, temp computer swap. In the end we lucked it by bypassing the immobilser as a last desperate attempt. Instantly the car started first time every time, idled properly and didn't want to stall coming up to a set of lights, intersection etc.

YER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i lost my orginal key a while back, i was using the secondary key for about 3 months.
Only when the problem started to happen i found the orginal. but it still has the same problem with the orginal key.

yeah the key was the problem for me too.
i think it's best to get your car down to a dealer (or similar) with both keys and get them to check the coding and possibly do a re-coding.

and ummm if that doesn't work... maybe problem with the transponder?
