Hey.
I just bought a TJ series 2 AWD Magna which rocks.
After i brought it home, i tried to take the key out of the ignition.
It won't go back to the off position.
I have tried moving the steering wheel incase it was the wheel lock and i know you have to push the key in and turn anti clockwise to get it out.
It will move from acc to start, so i can start the car and turn it off.
Does anyone know of how i could get it out, or will i have to pull apart the ignition?
...Might go back to the dealers on Monday.

dude press up on the gear stick... into P or should i say put it into p then push lever hard forwards :D
untill you hear the shiftlock CLICK into place, try putting your foot on the brake while pushing up, but it wont lock in unless your foot is off the brake

Thanks dude. lol!!
My driveway is on a hill. I put the handbrake on before i put it into park, so i guess the pin wasn't in properly for the key to come out.
I let all the weight onto the pin and the key came out.
lawls.

Nearly as golden as my friend who rang RACQ because he couldn't get his car started.
I happen to drive past about 2m before RACQ arrived to take it out of drive and start it first go :bowrofl:

THis sort of stuff happens all the time. Then there are vehicles that wont start unless you have your foot on the brake lol.
My story was when i used to lease my wrx it was an 03 model picked it up no worries all good. These things have a fancy security system. Got the code from the dealer all good. (but i didnt write it down) You couldnt start the thing without entering the code in the key pad. Anyway did the rounds nice flash new car. Went to chadstone to see one of my mates took him for a cruise went to fill up fuel all good. Went back to the car to start it and i couldnt remember the code for the life of me even though i keyed it in a few times on the day.
Bottom line car would not start. Rang subaru assist they couldnt help me they didnt have the code in their system cause i picked it up that day. Tried a couple of things over the phone no go.
End result nice brand new wrx on the tow truck to be transported back to my home lol...
I was quite embarresed. Felt better after the towie told me there have been a few subaru owners who have been caught out the same way.
Usually the towies tow them back to a holding yard and then get transported back to the dealership. I wasnt going to let this happen, had him tow it back to my place rang the sales rep the following morning thank god she had the code and all was well again lol...
Weird stuff happens to all of us from time to time. lol..
Regards
Thanks dude. lol!!

AWDs have a shift lock. Can't take keys out unless its in P and can't shift into gear unless
brake is fully depressed.
Once, when I went to pick my car up after servicing, the office boy who drove my car out
from the holding area asked me if I knew I had a problem with the gear selector been hard
to shift in and out of gear. I promptly told him that its an AWD with shift lock. The sticker
is still there in-front of the gear shifter.
Generally, when parking on a slope, do as follows:
1. With foot brake applied, shift into N.
2. Apply hand/park brake and then let go of foot brake to let the park brake take the load.
3. Re-apply foot brake and then shift into P and release foot brake.
When leaving:
1. Apply foot brake, shift out of P.
2. Release hand/park brake.

**** that, what ever happened to just getting in your car and starting the ****er ?

If parking on a slope and you let the auto trans take the weight of the car, the little pin
that is used to stop the gears from turning will eventually break lose in the auto box
causing lots of damage.
As with shift locks, all AWDs, 4WDs have it in one form or another. It is mandated safety
feature.

Yeah, i don't like the cars weight on the pin which is why i always put handbrake on first before going into park.
It happened again. I just had to take off the cover beneath the gear knob and adjust the cable that feeds into it.
