I have an immobilizer issue in my car. It cracks but it won’t start.
Sometimes it starts and then dies when i'm drving. I’m wonder can an immobilizer loose connection (stuff up) while driving, and can this cause the car to shut down?

my guess is that its the colent temp sensor!
well it seems to have the same problem that mine did and as soon as this sensor was fixed it runs awesome!
promblem with the diognostics is that you need to make sure that its a old tester thing cos the newer ones dont pick up all the faults.
im telling ya.. ill even put money on it!

I guarantee you that it wouldn't be your immobiliser. If your cranks then either its not the immobiliser or the person who installed it had not a clue what they were doing. Your immobiliser has nothing to do with your fuel pump.
My car had this exact same problem and it was just a faulty fuel pump.

is this a gut feeling or facts mate? the factory fitted immobiliser does still allow the engine to crank....cheers for trying but i dont think you no what your talking about
there is a common fault with magna's to do with the immobiliser.. just under the steering wheel, behind the dash is a wire with a plug half way down it. its for the immobiliser and they make terrible contact sometimes... best fix is to cut out the connector and soilder it up... dunno if thats is what was your actual problem but it wouldnt suprise me... they sometimes will crank but not start.. then all of the sudden they start..

Its fact. I'm actually a qualified car audio and security fitter! I fit systems and repair factory faults everyday of my life!

well then im sure you no alot about aftermarket alarms and immobiliser then.. no doubt about that.. but he is reffering to his factory fitted standard magna immobiliser... they do still allow the engine to crank... as do commodore factory fitted alarms... anyone with a intergrated remote/key unscrew the key from the remote and try start the car.. it'll crank for every in a day but never turn over....

If the car cranks but wont start its probably because theres no fuel getting up to the engine, whcich could possibly mean a faulty fuel pump. He also sais that the car stalls while driving, an immobiliser cant do this. Its probably stalling while hes driving because theres insufficient fuel at the engine. My car did the exact same thing that this member sais their problem is and it was a faulty fuel pump!

are you saying an immobiliser cannot become active while a car is running? (serious question, not being a smart ar se, i honestly dont no this).. i beleived it could which in the case of a magna would cause it to stop running... my main point was that the factory magna immobiliser still allows the engine to crank.. it is NOT wired into the starter motor as you're suggesting it is... as a fitter you should no there is more than one point to immobilse are car from...
out of interest are u familiar with the common magna fault i described above?

Immobilisers work on the fact that they immobilise the car while the ignition is off, therefore, while the car is running, there is 12 volts running down your ignition wire which means that the car can not immobilise its self while you're driving.
I know the factory magna immobiliser will still let the car crank, this is because the factory immobiliser cut it on one of the fuel pump wires. Aftermarket immobiliser cuts are usually on the ignition circuit and on the starter motor circuit.
I'm not being a smart **** here either but what makes you think its not a faulty fuel pump?

reason i SUGGESTED the common immobiliser wiring problem because ive fixed a hand full myself and thought that it could cause the immobiliser to cut in on this guys car, while driving, and cutting the fuel.. the main reason i said this was cause mitsu claimed to have fixed the problem in this guys car and said it was his immobiliser...
you said "there is 12 volts running down your ignition wire which means that the car can not immobilise its self while you're driving"... the wire problem im describing could cause this connection to be lost therefore the immobiliser isnt aware the car is running and eventually auto arms the itself cutting fuel, stalling the car, exactly as the owner here has described...
no offence mate but the first thing you said is that it cant be the immobiliser if the car still cranks.. that was my argument.... obviously we have agreed this is not true...
all the best..
P.S. could be a faulty fuel pump, of course! but the car is now fixed and the reported problem was the immobiliser.. your argueing it wasnt with very untrue statements..

your both right, on different grounds lol. He really should take a look at both.
But its true that the immobolizer plays up in a while like gremlin suggested, its an easy fix and a very common problem. I was like 'wtf' when it worked after i cleaned and connected it again...
lol lol
sif quote my unfinished edited message ahah.

yeh i was never against the idea of the fuel pump being the issue.. just didnt agree with the "facts" he was stating in regards to magna immobilisers... so uve had the same problem eh... stupid thing it is

You can come answer my thread in regards to the trip computer now lol. I want to get it installed but I don't know if this display unit comes with buttons or not... just a pain to figure out since I pulled it out of a wrecked magna.

Fuel pump NO, immobilser YES!
I can bet the dealer cut the white plug off the keyring antenna, and soldered the 2 wires together, due to the fact that the connectors lose tension, and cause the vehicle to stall on first start up. Very common problem on 3rd gen magnas, more so on the earlier models.
Why people always blame fuel first up has me f*cked... I 'spose the people at repco, autobarn, etc must love them.. all those fuel pumps sold for no reason!
