i have a TH magna (executive) and number 1 fan speed doesn't work. i know how they work, i'm just wondering if anyone knows where the actual control for this is. is it above the passengers feet behind the dash, or built into the switch panel above the stereo. nither my usual auto sparky or air con guy were open on my way to work this morning.

should be a "resistor pack" behind the dash,
#1 position usually fails first if that's where you leave the fan switch on permanently.
My current habit is to regularly change switch position between 1-2-3 to spread the load.
ie... DIY climate control.

it will be located on the passengers side of the car.. under the the glove box. it will be a little thing that will have metal fins on it and one or two srews holding into your ac ducting under dash. then will have a lettle plug in it with a few wires..:)
All ya gotta do is unplug it and remove the screws and your done..:)

it may or may not be that easy. for me it was a pain in the ****. i spent about 30 mins sitting upside down in the passengers seat.
here's a quick how to (this was on my TH executive):
1: under the glovebox is a plastic panel that is held in place by little 'christmas tree' plugs. there is 2 just under the glovebox and 2 at the firewall. (that's the easy part)
2: attempt to undo the screws that hold the glove box in place. they are gold coloured screws about 2 inches from where the top christmas trees were. in my case these had been done up by a heavy user of steroids because i couldn't budge them, so i gave up before i stripped them.
3:the thing you want to get to is just behind the metal bracket. it sits at about 45 degrees and has a white plug with 4 wires (some were green, can't remember the other colours) coming out of it. unplug this. there is a loop of metal attatched to the bottom screw than holds the cables in place. bend this out of the way and move the cables and you should be able to see both screws now. the top screw is rather easy to get too. if you can't get the glove box out, then above the passengers kick panel, close to the door is 2 10mm bolts that hold the metal bracket in place (there are others, but these are the only 2 you need to bother with). undo these. this will make it easier to move this around to get to the bottom screw. i had to poke the screw driver up through a little gap to get the bottom screw. it was a real pain. had i been able to get the glove box out it would've been much easier.
4: pull the unit out. the wires go through the black panel into a big white block of stuff. this only just fits through the hole, so it make take a few tries to get it lined up properly, but not long.
to put it back together is just the reverse.
i am going to ring mitsubishi shortly to get a price on a new unit.

damn!!.. is that just for one resistor? or all 4?
i read somewhere that each fan speed has it's own resistor, and you just replace the broken one?, or am i dreaming?

in this case it is the whole unit that you replace. all the resistors are sealed up in 1 little block of crap, so it is all 4 that you replace.
