View Full Version : Engine number sequence
Screamin TE

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a different engine number sequence between the ordinary 155kW 6G74, and the 163kW VR-X 6G74. As in, there is something that distinguishes it as a VR-X motor. Reason I am asking is i am looking at doing an engine swap in my TE, and if i decide to buy a VR-X motor, i dont want to get ripped off.
For example,
155kW 6G74123456
165kW 6G74ABCDEF
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

VRX engine is pretty much the same as the 155kw engine in the TJ apart from the exhaust.
Find a TJ engine, put a flow through exhaust on it.

nope as above, just a high flow zorst gives the extra 8kw
In the first series with the 150kW motor, there was a difference, the VRX motor had
different cams and ecu etc (from memory). The later ones with 155 adopted the VRX
engine.

The difference between the 147kW and the 150kW was a cam revision
The 150---->155kW upgrade was just a computer tune.
The VRX had the exhaust = +8kW (It also already had the computer tune in the Series 1 VRX thats why they also output 163kW)

Did you try to email Mitsubishi in Adelaide and ask them. I don't think you will get answer to your question here.

Mitsubishi Australia does not answer question posted by the general public. Need to ring
dealer spare parts divisions.

if u actually buy a vrx engine, without the ecu or exhaust, and paying more because they say its a 163kw engine, then ur getting screwed, end of story ;)

Yeah was speaking to a wreckers once, they wanted $1500 for a Ralliart Engine they said it was 180kW, I said its really only about 165-167kW (180 - 8Kw for exhaust, 5Kw for ECU if not more coz its a ralliart, and a whopping 1Kw for headers) and he argued me on it, wasnt gonna buy it anyway so I wasted his time :)
