So, after writing off my TF, I'm in the market for another manual 3rd gen. I've decided on getting a tertiary student loan from the NAB for $5000, which is good because repayments don't start until my uni course is finished (but bad because interest starts accruing straight away).

Adding this to my own $2200 i've managed to scrounge together and I have a total budget of $7200.

I'd like to spend $6000 - $6500 on the car itself.

So my question is this, am I going to be able to find a TH manual for that kind of money, or should I just settle for a decent TF? How much car should I be able to get for $6500?

Also i have found a TF sports on carpoint (http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/MITSUBISHI/MAGNA/Victoria/2487792.aspx), please tell me what you think of it? It's alarmingly cheap for what it is so i'm a bit suspicious... What is there to look for when kms are this high?

Cheers

It's alarming compared to the other manual TE/TF's in Vic! I'm seeing TE's with 100,000kms at 9k on carsales!! Redbook puts them at about $3000!!! Unbelievable what some people think their cars are worth!

id say thats a pretty good deal myself, but of course the closer to $4k you can get it the better.

make sure you check vigilantly for various issues with it (mine turned out to have a leaking fuel tank, has an oil leak at the front and had a few little niggles which have been sorted now) and use ANY little thing you find wrong with it as a bargaining tool.

cant believe the TF sports dont come with power windows though. niether did my TE advance (not standard on anything below the altera back then) - stingy bastards! my 1987 subaru vortex had power windows with auto up/down on both of them :(

i'd never place too much trust in Redbook though. Theres only so much the calculator can get it right.
Dont get me wrong, its a handy tool, i just dont think its entirely accurate
