Hey Guys,

I would like to get my car lowered but I need some help first.

Someone from work recommended Pedders but I drove out to Penrith on the weekend and they were closed (I work in Castle Hill during the week so I'm unable to drop in on a weekday). I also sent them an email on Saturday afternoon and have not yet had a reply.

Does anyone know if there are any Pedders branches that are open on weekends? Also, do they lower cars on the spot or would I have to book my car in beforehand?

Any feedback will be appreciated, Thanks! :D

You would need to book the car in, as they may not have the parts in stock, and may be too busy to do it on the spot.

I would recommend avoiding Pedders - you're better off with King or Lovell springs.
If you're not confident to install them yourself, a local suspension shop should be able to install them.

Cheers,
Martin.

My local Pedders has a little Mirage and they can cruise around and collect your car and work on it and drop it back off with the bill.

I'd also say check out dobonson springs (Who make some springs for whiteline anyway).

DON'T chop your springs, only knob's cut their springs and when they are mid-corner with no more suspension travel and then understeer into a tree/etcetc and kill their passengers have no one to blame but their dumb-ass-selves. Plus being lower but with pudgey soft springs gives you a **** ride.

actually chopping your springs will make them lower and firmer, not softer...

I had my car done by Pedders in Rocky, I threw over 480bucks, they threw in Gas Shocks and SL springs.... When I seen my car it was sitting higher then I previously had it, they told me it will settle, so off I go, one week later nope still sitting same.... Wasnt happy, I took it back they couldn't fix it.... To cut a long story short I threw in Kings on the front and it dropped her bout 25mm...

spidey-matt, if your after someone out penrith way to lower your car, i would recommend
Wholesale Suspension on Coreen ave(right off Castlereigh Rd). they are far better than pedders and have access to a huge range of brands. they are usually well priced as well. i think they are open sat mornings. you can always call them during the week to check.

Pedders have good product - my suspension was done by my local mechanic but using all Pedders gear - on both cars.
Check out their website and email a few of your local braches - some must be open on at least Saturdays but you will have to book it in I imagine.

No. Chopping spings weakens them. They are no longer able to carry the same weight.
Simple physics.

I'm sorry to hijack this thread, I'm just curious how low can I get if I replace my standard TE springs with Ralliart springs?

like 10mm.. not worth the bother

sports/vrx/ralliart springs are all the same

...how come every car ive been in with chopped springs rides extremelly hard? i always thought chopping off coils increases the springs rate

Probably hitting the bump stops.

Very simple to test. Get two click pens that are the same, remove the springs, cut one
in half and then try compressing the whole one and the half one.

Thanks for the info guys, I wasn't expecting quite so many responses. :D

I don't think I wanna go down the cut springs path as I'd rather have it done properly. A fellow AMC member has kindly offered to help me out so I'll try to catch up with him tomorrow and see if he can help me.

I'd love to install them myself but I'm not quite that mechanical YET. I'm hoping to learn a thing or two as I go but lowering seemed a bit involved for a beginner.

Suspension is easy-peasy. Just make sure you have the tools and enough time. I took my time and set a side a whole weekend. Hosed it in.

Go to Wholesale Suspension as previously mentioned in the thread. From my experience King Springs have been better than Pedders. I lowered my TJ Sports with Pedders and it rode like a billy cart. A mate lowered his with King Springs and it rode like standard, due to progressive rate and sat lower than mine.

Also, they stock a wide range of shocks and various other good gear...

Ill probably be taking my XR6 Turbo down there for Kings SL springs, Whiteline sway bars and Koni adjustables.

Here:

Wholesale Suspension (http://www.wholesalesuspension.com.au/)

They are located on Coreen Ave Penrith, which runs between Castlereagh Rd and The Northern Rd (Parker St).

The prices are reasonable and they are able to do wheel allignments on lowered cars which some mechanics are not able to do.

They can also arrange for your springs to be reset (Compressed) however this does have some potential problems, which they can explain for you.

I personally would steer clear of pedders, but they is just due to a personal experience. I have dealt with wholesale suspension for numerous cars and have been happy each time.

yeh i totally agree with steering clear of pedders.. i only let them compress the springs for me.. i fitted them myself and have a really good wheel aligner that does trucks and buses... stay away from pedders if you can help it

I'm not suggesting this, so please don't get me wrong. I'm just sharing my experience with my previous group and with my mechanic (overseas). One cheap way of lowering the car is to cut the strut perch and move down (1-2 inches) and weld. This way, the spring rebound or compression did not change. I know it's not legal here in Australia. I'm just sharing it.

What, may i ask, is the issue with pedders?

Iv'e delt with them for ages, and never had an issue. My Golf is fitted with pedders springs and stock shocks. The diggest fault with the car, is the stock shocks. My mates falcon is lowered with full pedders gear (shocks springs swaybars) and is the best handeling falcon ive ever driven. the ride is firm, but i like it like that. both cars are low. the falcon is VERY low. but that exactly what he wanted. My g/f's Lancer was lowered on pedders, rode very well on 17" rims, and sits very nicley.

Does anyone know anywhere in Sydney (preferrably near Sutherland, but can go southwestern suburbs) that can put king lows on my tl awd for around the $400 mark?

Alternatively, if I bu some dobinson spings myself (anyone know where I can get these for under $220?), is there anyone out there interested in chucking them on my car for $100?

Cheers, Dave

i dont like them cause i had pedders springs and shocks in my TR.. It wasnt really that low (2" over stock) and it was so damn ruff... my ralliart is like 4" lower than standard and even on my 20s isnt as harsh as the pedders setup in the TR... thats my reason neway

Ok, I have now got my car lowered. It is currently sitting on KYB shocks and King Springs - Superlows in the front and Lows in the back. Below are links to before and after shots of my car.
