the only way to stop your boot rattling is to either get rid of the subs or sound deaden your boot lid
i answered the poll before i read your post :P
firing into cabin will reduce the rattles largely, but will also drop the volume of the subs largely while its at it.

test youself. i noticed the rattling is not as bad, but facing it away from the cabins gives itmore bass. also i got more boot space facing it towards the cabin

Back of the boot gives a more mellow sound, facing forward gives a more punchy note
Edit: haha just read wot the post was, you wont ever fix it :D
If your in vic and come to a cruze, I can show you breifly how to minimize it but to stop it, get the welder out and have some fun :D

Try holding your number plate while you have bass going, this can cause alot of the rattle. If alot of it goes away, try using some rubber underneath the plates.
But yes firing into the cabin will reduce the rattle, but it won't make it go away.
As for what sounds better, totally depends on your style of music and whether you prefer punchy or big bass.

Facing back ftw.. Either way you face it wont change the rattles much, and backward firing gives better sound and when you open your boot in the shopping centre carpark to put your groceries in, people see your sub and bow at your feet and give you money and flowers. true story.:shifty:

It's all to do with the sound waves of your sub. I too answered the poll without reading your question.
Theoretically, the subs should give you less rattle if they're firing directly into the cabin, because the mass of the sound waves are not bouncing off your bootlid/boot panels. Although it will not completely solve the problem, lots of SD will help also, however as soon as you get rid of one rattle, another with appear. The only way to get rid of it all is to take your entire car apart and put it back together with rubber grommets, silicone, sound deadening or similar products between every piece of metal and have the entire cabin solid. although even then, im sure you'll get rattling springs or something :P
Anyway, sound deaden your boot would be the best solution, bulk pack for value.

:bowrofl: That's my justification for my car sounding like it will fall apart with every bass hit lmao

i cant fit anything in the boot. my boot is now the rear footwells:bowrofl: the amps are right behind the ski port and the sub box is right against the boot door. so when you open it all you get is sub box. cant get to the spare wheel either.lol
i can put a 1.25ltr of coke on the boot near the window and it will jump wildly and will flaten the coke in 40 seconds
all this talk of 'eliminating rattles being impossible' is silly :P ive pulled the plastic trims off the boot lid, cleaned and dynamatted behind them, dynamatted the back of the licence plate + added 2 more screws, and slapped 1 sheet across the main bit of the lid, and i now have absolutely no rattles.
for reference, im pulling 138.5dB at the windscreen with the driver door open, and 149.9dB at the mouth of the sub box, so it isnt exactly quiet bass im trying to deaden either

i did the test myself with my car and i found the best possible solution is dynamat the boot lid and around the number plate and fire it from just behind the seat into the rest of the boot. so facing towards the rear of the car. made the most gains that way and sounds heaps clearer and nicer. facing into the car it was horrible. trust me. do the same tests and you'll see what i mean.

just turn it up louder so you you dont hear the boot rattle? works for me
When i was doing my install, all the information i was receiving was to fire the subs facing rear, my main rattle was just my number plate (particualy plastic number plate cover) so i put some foam stuff on the back of it and it helped..... but then again, my enitre boot lid flexes when its cranked!

My main problem is the damn rear view mirror. Hang onto that with one hand and its beautiful! Let it go and rattles and vibration noises galore! But I haven't come across a solution for that yet. Will wait till it falls off.
