View Full Version : high idle after battery disconnect

I had to replace the battery last week after it died. After several days of the usual fun of having it stall every time I slowed, while the ISC was getting back into its proper routine, everything settled down quite nicely, except for one thing - now, instead of idling at the proper rpm's, it seems to have settled on a nice steady 1500rpm instead.

I'm assuming this is going to be an ISC issue, but don't they usually result in revs dropping when they go bad? And isn't it usually a case of revs not being steady in the first place? With my car, it idles smooth-as, just far too highly. It never idled this high before.

Is this an indicator of an actual ISC fault, or has it just come back a bit loopy after the battery disconnect? Will the problem likely fix itself if I just try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, or do I need to be looking at replacing (or adjusting) the ISC?

disconnect ur battery for about 30 mins. then reconnect it. then let ur car idle for 10 mins. after do some highway driving or drive like a grandma. to get the gear changes right

the 3rd gen computers need to be reset. 30mins to an hour will be enough.

Then do some driving. Drive you usual style of driving so the computer can recalculate gearbox and engine settiongs

The computer DID reset, this is the problem.
When you re-connect the battery/connect a new one you need to let it idle for about 5-10mins and then take it for a drive. That's what i've always done and i've never had any issues with stalling/high idles.

I'm not sure if the 3rd issues would be applicable or not, as mine is a TS.

But it sounds like this could be the easiest solution. I'll just disconnect it again and then do as you suggest, hopefully that should see it sorted. Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Do the reset and idle for 5 minutes or so routine but if that doesn't fix it then check the ISC with a multimeter.

There are 2 coils. One increases the idle speed and the other decreases it. If one has burnt out it could do this.
