hey guys the mechanics just put a new set of front brake pads in my car

now it makes this horrid groaning sound just before it comes to a complete stop or just as the brakes are released! this problem's really bad when the brakes are cold / wet.. seems to gradually wear off when they heat up though.

does anyone have this problem or ideas on how to fix it?? also is it wrecking the rotors too?

Your pads are still bedding in... make more gentle stops for the first 1,000km until they settle in and will make that sound especially just before a complete stop where they bite in.

If it's quite severe, they may not have been fitted properly (highly unlikely). Last time I heard my car do that was when I had bare minimum pad left and had to machine back the rotors after scoring them.

Sorry i should have rephrased... they weren't JUST put in, its been about 5000ks now lol

they shouldn't take that long to bed in right?

Geez in that case, you may want to have them looked at. No way it takes that long to bed in. In that case, you may be a little low on pads if you do a LOT of city driving... best to have it checked out Raven.

Believe me, pads are far cheaper to replace than rotors!!!

Depends on the brand of pad, for instance Lucas are known for this be it they are great pads otherwise.

Did your mechainc machine the rotors and they may be glazed as well

I second that Mal.

Have Bendix Advance on my AWD and they squeal and moan and groan heaps. So embaressing when going through Maccas drive through. Everyone looks at you. Time for some Ulitmates i think.

Thanks for the help guys

Took it to a different mechanic, they said it's normal for the type of pads that are on the car.

Might try EBC greenstuff next time though, seems to be a lot of praise for those around here...

you could try getting some of that goop stuff that you put on the backing of the pad to stop the vibrations. helped mine, but it is starting to come off now i think (i think i melted it all at the drags)

EBC pads will eat your rotors for breakfast (if they are stock)

Lucas are ok, except for the issues you have. Did you get the heavy duty type?

I had Bendix on my VRX when i had it, i swear by them!

my old te used to do it whenever the disc was wet (like just after washing it). it goes away after 3 or 4 brakes. i used to just drive slowly down my street (about 20km/h) for about 50-100m with the brakes on gently, just enough so i could feel the pads were touching, that used to stop it.
