Hey Guys,
I had my brake warning lights come on (ABS & Handbrake) so i took it to the dealer and it gave out the errors 44 and 36. they couldnt fix it and the next day the brakes failed and i crashed it :( $4.5k damage with a $2450 excess
so does anyone know what those error codes are?

What in the mother of...  Your brakes didn't work so you kept driving it?! Ugh man... That excess is retarded, change insurance companies. $4.5k should be a write off.

the dealer should have known what the codes were
and second admitted it and not have given you the car to drive
so possible causes
bypass in the master cylinder rubber cups or faulty abs system
leaking brake calipers /handbrake cable ceased
when was the brake oil changed ?

4.5k a write off?
thats just the cost of painting a new bumper and bonnet and some other little parts. hardly a write off!
yeah not sure whats happening with the dealer, he didnt want to keep the car. told me to bring it back another time.

What model car is it? It's hard to tell from the pic and your profile says you drive a TP. 3rd gens aren't worth a real lot... if the car's worth like 6k it'll almost be a write off.

I found this in the workshop manual.
EDIT: (3rd Gen error codes)
Code No. 36, 52, 53 Damper clutch solenoid system Probable cause
If the resistance value for the damper clutch solenoid is too large or too small, it
is judged that there is a short-circuit or an open circuit in the damper clutch solenoid
and diagnosis code No. 36 is output. If the drive duty rate for the damper clutch
solenoid is 100 % for a continuous period of 4 seconds or more, it is judged that
there is an abnormality in the damper clutch system and diagnosis code No. 52 is
output. When diagnosis code No. 36 is output, the transmission is locked into 3rd
gear as a fail-safe measure, and the N range light flashes at a frequency of 1 Hz.
If the lock-up clutch remains engaged for a continuous period of 10 seconds when
the Engine A/T-ECU is attempting to disengage the lock-up clutch, it is judged that
the damper clutch is stuck on and diagnosis code No.53 is output.
Malfunction of the damper clutch solenoid
Malfunction of connector
Malfunction of the Engine A/T-ECU
Code No. 41, 42, 43, 44 Solenoid valve (inlet) Probable cause
The ABS-ECU normally monitors the solenoid valve drive circuit. and determines
if there is an open circuit or short circuit in the solenoid coil or in the harness, i.e.
no current flows in the solenoid even though the ABS–ECU turns it on, and vice
versa.
Malfunction of wiring harness
Malfunction of hydraulic unit
Malfunction of ABS-ECU

I'm suprised they let your drive it out of the dealership if it had issues with the brakes. Doesnt the dealer have some form of duty of care if he sees the vehicle as "Very Unsafe".
If i was you i would look at getting some legal advise on this.
Also there is a possibility if the insurance co knows you drove the vehicle with faulty brakes they will decline your claim.
Re the excess that is a ripper.

Agree re the dealer having some duty of care. At the very least they should have advised you not to drive the car even if they reckon they didn't know what the codes were (which sounds like a crock - I mean, they are a DEALER for good ness sake). However, the true moral of the story is when in doubt leave the car in the driveway. Driving it and stacking it is a tough way to learn, but I am guessing you won't do it again
And guys don't give him a hard time about insurance excess. For a 19 year old something around the 2k mark doesn't surprise me. I am with Shannons and my basic excess is $500 but jumps to $1950 if my 18 year old son is driving and stacks it (and yes, he HAS been warned that he will pay the excess if he bends my toy  ).

yeah sorry have not updated the profile for awhile! its an 02 TJII. market value is $13,700
The hydraulic brake system works independantly for all 4 wheels. The errors you got relate to electronic side of things only and would NOT have caused the brakes to 'fail' (maybe just the ABS not to work and the other code the car goes into limp home mode).
It is EXTREMELY unlikely that your brakes failed causing you to crash.
Can you please explain exactly what happened? Ie did the pedal go to the floor etc?

so you must be with aami then? and chose to lower your premium and in return, have a higher excess.. now have to pay it :doubt:
and how the hell could a mitsu dealer not know what the codes were/meant..
hope it works out for ya anyway..
