i have already lowered my TE about 1 3/4 inchesall way round.
i have 18x8. is it easy to lower it to the wheel arch.
thanks :D

The law in Vic and assuming national road laws cover this as well is 100mm clearance with no more than 1/3 suspension travel sacrificed.

bit of a stupid question but what do they mean exactly by 1/3 suspension travel?

hell mofo yah! take it to a suspension place and tell them to compress your springs...u can say the height aswell. or you could make new ones...as compressing they basically heat up the spring n 'compress'. therefore making it a harder ride...

Why is it a stupid question ?
i asked it so people who have done it could give me there advice.

Hes not referring to your post man.
He is asking what the 1/3 suspension travel means.
Im not to sure eaither. Maybe it has something to do with the maximum amount the springs/shocks can compress?? dunno really.

Big Appologies. i sould read things properly before posting things.
Once again sorry.

i think it means that even with 1/3rd wear&tear of shocks and springs the ride hight should not be less than 100mm.
MagnaLE
24-01-2004, 09:10 AM
It means that the total suspension travel after lowering it must be at least 2/3 of what it used to be.
ie; the distance of how far a wheel can go up and down when the spring is fully extended to when it is fully compressed (or hits the bump stop), that is the suspension travel distance. If it is say 100cms when stock, then after lowering it (or even just using different shocks), it must be at least 67cm for it to remain legal!

i did my TE...had king super lows in it all round...2" drop. Then had em compressed as i wasnt happy with the height...ended up 2 3/4 at d front n 3 1/4 rear. And i still wasnt happy...but neva got round to going further down!

Maybe you should come out with it.

Yup thats the one.. Ridge, Brooke, Bridgette etc.. OK suspension travel is the amount of movement you have before bottoming out.
ie if your damper (shock) can travel 300mm at std height with normal weight on the car, once lowered the travel of the damper must still be atleast 200mm.
There are other factors like the travel of suspension componants to the bump stops etc however the above example is just a very basic explaination to get the idea across.
As for compressed springs, a/ the spring rate will be shot. and b/ theyre illegal and for good reason.

Hi,
I called NRMA and they said that u can only lower the car 1 and quarter inch front and rear and the car has to be a minimum 100mm from the ground. I want to lower the car more but for insurance purposes I have to do it. I dont wanna have an accident and they wont honour the money coz its not in their guidlines... Its not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So all u pplz that have it lowerd past the legal limit can get *** up when it comes insurance time? (knock on wood)

It means nothing if you have full comp or third party as at worst you will end up without a car but the other party still gets thiers fixed.
Do not get mixed up however with third party that is with your rego as this only covers injury and not damage.
I feel the qld sustem of compulsary third party is a great idea.

in sa we pay ctp with our registration (through allianz) and it makes up 80% of the cost of registering our vehicles.
