my starter motor decided to shit itself on the way home from work tonight :x :x :x :x :x :x

i will go and get a new/exchange one in the morning, apparently its no big deal to remove/install them,, is this true?

can someone explain to me how to do it as id rather learn something new for myself as opposed to paying some guy to do it for me, depending on wether its a big job or not.. TR model

cheers guys

If it is a six, the starter is under the front and easy to get to.
If it is a 4 it is behind the motor under the inlet and a prick to get to.
First disco your battery,
there are 2 bolts, (14mm heads), the starter itself is threaded so there should be no nuts on the other end to hold.
Once undone manover the starter into a position where you can disco the cables, the big one, the main power feed has a 12mm nut to undo, the small one, the trigger is a splade connector, it has a little "button" so to speak to release it.
Install is just reverse.

thanks Mal, just about to tackle it now. its a 4 so i have the prick job of getting under the inlet. shouldnt take me too long now i have instructions
OK, im removed the bolts and disconnected the wires so the starter is just sitting there, i can move it around but cannot actually remove as there is some sort of support bar behind the starter stopping me from removing the whole unit. im not sure i can remove this either, so i assume its just a bit of fiddling to get it out? ive spent a good 20 minutes allready, needless to say ive said a few swear words :x :x

cheers mate,

in my service manual book, it says:

"NOTE: On EFI models, it will be necessary to remove the inlet manifold support bracket to allow removal of the starter motor."

So I guess that support bar you are talking about is the inlet manifold support bracket. You should be able take it off.

now you tell me!!!!! LOL

i dont have a service manual but im glad you do!! funnily enough you CAN get it out, just have to manover the starter into the right spot, well actually i let it go after saying F*ck 3 times and it just fell down in between the support bar and the chasis and i just pulled it out.

everything works again, although i did forget to replace the MAS sensor thingie from the air assembly. needless to say it sounded a bit rough.. cheers all

hooray! 100 posts for me 8)
and i didint have to right some meaningless post to get it
