clean it today and geases it up with something called rp70. still makes sound. could it be something else causing the grinding noise just wondering, is the timing belt suppose to be a little loose or it suppose to be tight

Take your car to a mitsubishi service centre, I had a grinding noise everytime I started it..had it for ages no-one knew what it was, took it to zupps and they said the TE's and what not have a pulley that after a while starts making noises. They just take it out throw it in the bin and re-tension the belt, they said that it was needed. They did it free of charge for me....so my tip is go there and see if it is the same thing.

If youve got a TE then this is most likely it, only takes 2 minutes, if you need help just ask.
My KE did it when I got it, and I yanked the stupid pulley out quick smart and havent had an issue since.

Theres a pic on there, just remove "pulley" and tighten the belt.

if your a/c / alternator belt is involved with more than 4 pulleys, then you have the first picture gas hed is talking about. If the belt goes around your crank pulley, a/c compressor, alternator, and under, as in, the pulley runs over the top of the belt, a free running pulley, the your noise could be within them. I had a noise in that region just this week, i have a 97 te 3.0 manual, and it was the idler pulley, the nut had come loose, but the belts were stuffed too. i replaced the belts, tensioned it up all nice and sexy, and it is all good now. Hope this has helped.

pullys/dealer
if the noise persists see you dealer or mechanic
somethings not right
dissy is the forums short name for distributor
dissy has the spark plug leads coming out from it
coil find the single lead going from the center post on the dissy cap
