Hey Guys
I am deeply worried, today driving up spring hill in brisbane city and i get a red light, so i put the car into D out of tippy mode, and expecting the car to hold its position i let the brake go a lil bit, and what happens?? the car starts rolling backwards!!!!! LIKE WTFOMG.
So i tried it on a smaller hill, same result except not as fast. I dont think this is normal, what could it be? cause i think its time that i had the transmission checked over and stuff. Anyone can shed some light on the situation, that would be appreciated.

mine does it to. but only on steep drive ways or hills. pretty sure this is normal. i remember asking my driving instructor when i was going for p's if its normal. he said it can happen to some cars on steep hills

yeah it just means the weight off your car/angle of the hill is greater than the output from your idle revs. if you lightly press the accelerator it will hold (or just use the brake)

only in the rwd autos the old style did they ever hold on a hill
the torque converters and oil pump designs have changed the FWD so much the boxes wont hold on hills not eneough weight to torque and revs
for hills
its foot on the brake--- hand brake on ---and it should hold --
i just always assumed that..
you idle at a certain amount when no acceleration is applied. If you were to say idle at 1600rpm for argument's sake, the engine is still making 1600 revolutions per minute - enough power to get up a small hill, true?
Likewise, 800 rpm at idle wouldnt be enough to get up a steep hill, so if you take your foot off the thing stopping you rolling back, you're gonna roll back.
Correct me if im wrong?
I love it when im on a hill where i can take my foot off the brake and not move. Its fun :)

i wouldnt make a habit of rolling back and let the tranny hold the weight....this lessens the life span of the tranny. so just hold ur brakes and thats wat they're design for:think:

some of the subarus in the manuals have a device in the brake line that when you stop with your foot on the clutch it locks the brakes on,
easy for hill starts, as no brake needed as your foot comes off the clutch it releses the brakes.

That would be heaps good.
