Hi guys, just serviced my car on the weekend, and noticed a lot of oil on the top of the engine... is this the head gasket??, if so, how hard would it be to DIY replace it?
if it's not the head gasket, what is it and what has caused it
it's the 2.4L by the way
there's no other leaks under the car, i must admit, i was overdue for a service by about 7-8000k!!

looks like fill spill by the picture or
you need a new rocker cover gasket

degrease engine and watch it again

if it leaks while running the its the gasket an easy diy

undo the two nuts on the rocker clean it up and tighten the bolts around the cover
down but not to much less than 10 nms the rocker covers crack

your ok its not the head gasket

when you put a rocker cover gasket on back on reseal it with a high temp silicon

I concur, looks like the rocker cover gasket. Believe me, I know.

After a lot of fiddling around I've made mine the only 1st gen with an astron not to leak oil (that I know of).

i know it's not fill spill...i'm pretty careful..
i'll go hunting for a new rocket cover gasket and some high temp silcon..
hope it's as easy as unbolt, clean, new gasket, silicon and rebolt :-)

mines never leaked oil!! or burnt it . bet u bxc7 dosen't .
and i bet u could eat off mad lante's engine it's sooo clean and no ones got that claim to fame!!

There's been a few astrons in my family, they've all leaked.

BCX7 said mine was the only one he's seen that doesnt leak, mad lante` was present at this time, so I assuummmmmeeeeee their's leak. :P

Edit: We replaced the oil sump on Bill's after He said this, not sure if it leaks still.

mines leaking a bit of oil from the same place - i guess it's just a gasket? Is it the same procedure for mine? If so i might have a go on the weekend
