Does it exist yet ?
I haven't seen talk from people about mods they've had done.
I do vaguely remember seeing a pic of someones VRX with twin exhausts...although maybe I dreamt that ?
So whats out there ?
Anyone know ? ....

you pretty much have to go down the custom route for the 380 as there is no real market available for aftermarket companies to make specific kits for.
It'd be very easy to get the suspension and exhaust of a 380 upgraded, other then that, you gotta do it yourself

I contacted Sprintex a few months ago about the possibility of a S/C kit from the TMR but they were very tight-lipped about it and referred me back to Ralliart.

No you weren't dreaming. If it is the one I'm thinking of, it was a silver 380 (GT as I recall, but maybe VRX) with dual exhausts (ie one outlet each side of rear bar). I tried to find it now, but couldn't - maybe the thread was archived or whatever happens to old threads. But it looked very good.

Mitsu Dealers were doing these, I was so tempted by a Black VRX with sunroof and 19" Avanti's, lowered wildly. It had dual exhausts, silent still though

Seriously ? Mitsubishi themselves were offering this ?
Was it a limited edition thing or do is this like an unlisted option on new 380s ?

It'd be a dealer-fit type deal, not a factory option.

ah thanks....may have to enquire.
Would it make any difference in terms of power/acceleration...or is it coolness factor only :D

Seeing as apparently the 380s run the same spec cams as the Ralliart Magna, I'd say any of the aftermarket cams for the Magnas will work on the 380.

The dual exhausts? It might - depends how they've done it. If the mufflers are a straight through design and the section where the exhaust splits into two is done sensibly then it certainly won't hurt.
Unless the dealer has a spec'd up car sitting on the lot you're often better off doing this stuff after market. The dealer will want to profit from their enhancements after all, so you might get it cheaper straight from an exhaust shop.

What about the work needed on the rear bumper to make way for the second exhaust tip?

Found it! It was a VRX.

Awesome stuff !
I wonder how much something like that would cost !?

I'd be careful there. I talked to the chief mechanic at a large Mitsu dealer in Brisbane and he doesn't think the cams are the same. He said the lumpiness of the Ralliart idle is missing. It's more likely that the profiles are similiar only and if the same I would have expected the 3.8 litre to be pumping out 190 + KW. The blurb Mitsu puts out says -
Mitsubishi found during engine development that the camshaft profile developed for the Ralliart Magna a few years ago is perfectly suited to this engine, so it has been adopted across the board.
- but I'd be suprised if it is exactly the same. Why is the larger capacity putting out 5 kw less? We need Mitsu by Design or one of the other Mitsubishi lurkers to confirm the real deal.

No idea. There's a fair bit of custom work involved... but you could always PM the guy in that old thread (if he's still around).

The 380 uses the ralliart magna profiled cams and valves springs.
The ralliart magnas DIDNT have any lumpiness to there idle (the first prototype ralliart engine did due to different cams that the actual production engines didnt get. I have a pair of the prototype cams sitting in my shed at home).
Lumpiness at idle is caused by more duration and bigger overlap, ralliart cams had the same duration and overlap as the stock TJ magna cams. All they had was 1.1mm more lift over stock TJ cams.
Also as engine capacity increase it has a smoothing effect on camshafts due to the capacity increase. For example a mild cam with a slight lumpy idle for a 308 holden if put into a 253 holden, will make it have a fairly rough idle.
Another thing remember that the 380 meets euro3 emissions and has 3 cat convertors (one on each manifold and a after cat underneath the car) whereas the ralliarts only had the 1 cat convertor under the car and was fitted with free flowing headers and had a higher rev limit compared to the 380.

Thanks for clearing that up, Jason.
So doing the usual exhaust mods for the 380 might see some real gains, particularly if we ditched the after cat perhaps?

The after cat doesnt have a major impact on power (its usually a small sized cat convertor that just cleans up what the main cats have missed), most of the restriction is caused by the primary cat convertors being up on the manifolds and therefore the gases dont have far to go before they hit that restriction.
A good custom made exhaust from the cats back "should" make a nice power/torque gain on the 380.
