Hey guys,
New member here, dont even have a magna yet, keep in mind i say YET! I am currently workin my ass off to get one, so 2 questions:
1) Should i spend 9-10k on an 01 TJ Exec or go the extra 5-6k and get an '01 TJ VR-X???
Im tossing up between the 2, but i kno i want one of them. and...
2) If you suggest a TJ Exec, can ya recommend places to get bodykits and stuff nice and cheap, cos the only place i know of is the spoiler shop and they charge an arm and a leg.
Thanks in advance for any help guys.

This is true, I saw that to get an exec and do it up aesthetically to basically 'be' a VRX would be a couple k cheaper, but it wouldnt have the more attractive engine specs without adding turbo or sumthin, and i dun wanna do that, insurance is bad enough for me and im in the business!

So I guess we have to wait a little while more then? :bowrofl:

Welcome to the club, You can see all Perth stuff in the WA section where you meet most of us in that area.

Yeah if you like the VRX just get it rather than modding to be like it just for a few K more.

Cheers!

if you settled for the exec, you'd end up noticing all the little interior and bits and pieces that it misses out on, so definately save the extra for the VRX.

also, i'd imagine a VRX would be better looked after than an exec (on average)

Honesty man i'd save up for a VR-X you will not be disappointed and get a manual if you can although there is nothing wrong with an auto, the manuals are supposed to be quicker, but in saying that mines an auto and i can still kick falcadore/skyline ass.

Cheers guys, just a few questions, probably stupid ones i know, but I'm still a noob and theres only one way to learn,
1) the difference between the exec (140kW i think...) and the VR-X (163kW), is that a big diff?
2) when looking for bodykits and stuff, do diamante parts fit magnas the same?

Thanks

to be honest, i would save an extra 2 or 3....maybe even 5 and get a gtvi verada...:P

look so much sweeter than a magna... i saw get the VRX between those two..

also! another thing, you could save the extra 5....buy the exec (manual) andd could probabaly make it look more unique, and not too far off the pace of a VRX with 5grand....

just a thought..

The first bunch of TJ execs had 150kW.. the later life ones had 155kW. The Sports/VR-X was always 163kW.

The TH had 147kW, so it's been a while since a magna was as "weak" as 140kW.

But yes, it's a noticeable difference just the same. The only difference between the 155kW cars and the 163kW cars is the rear muffler. The 150kW cars had a slightly different cam profile.

If you look for a Sports you get all the fancy gadgets of a VR-X, except for the body kit, so you can save a few dollars and go with the kit of your choice. But if you love the look of the VR-X kit then buy a VR-X straight up as you'll save some money.

P.S. if you do buy an exec and want a VR-X kit for it, PM me.. I have one for sale.

buy a vrx, u'll start noticing the better trim/power windows etc :) or, as ur going auto, have a look for the veradas...much better trim levels, maybe even better resale (aiming at an older age bracket). can really pimp those out.

may as well look for them if ur going the auto route. i have an '03 black rada, couldnt be happier :D

<--perth member too :)

oh and welcome!

02-05-2007, 12:52 PM
but how does the rada perform next to the vrx???

Phil

stick a supercharger in it

Spackbace

but how does the rada perform next to the vrx???

155kw vs 163kw... like u'll notice it! replace the exhaust with a catback, add a cai...u'd be equivalent to a vrx

they both have the same engine, so u wont notice any sort of punchiness with the vrx over the rada, and u wont notice anything different in the real world...different exhaust tone tho from the vrx

or if u went a gtvi u'd get the same 163kw engine as the vrx

or go a verada xi, get almost everything off the gtvi, except that added 8kw :P

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 02:49 PM
thanks dude, bit confused though????
ive just seen a gtvi kl 03
it says it has 155kw??

nope, 163kw as u can see on redbook. GTVi's/GTV's are the only veradas to have the 163kw, the Eis and the Xis dont

Now, the big q.
The reasons i want to get the rada are
a) newer
b) fairly low kms,
c) leather seats
d) same power as vr-x
e) additional tidbits like gps, 8 or 10 spkr system
BUT
BUT
BUT
I dont like the woodgrain THAT much.
How easy is it to change all the woodgrain panels and is it worth it?

fairly easy to change with someone who doesnt have it...

best to live with it for a little while, because its the centre console, gear stick, and steering wheel.

u'll definitely find buyers/swappers for the steering wheel and gear stick on here ;) maybe even the whole console!

go take it for a test run hey, get off here :P

*oh and dont forget u get a sunroof 2 ;) *

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 03:10 PM
Haha yeah the sunroof will be rather joooi!
but i cant test it for a bit, i work 9-5 mon-fri and then another job thurs nights and sat morns, theyr only open till 1 on sats!
grrrr ill have to get sum time off werk this/next week
so are they sweet to drive??

Spackbace
02-05-2007, 03:14 PM
cant say i've driven a KL, let alone a GTVi, but my KJ is pretty smooth, little road noise, all the bells and whistles inside to give a comfy drive. electric drivers seat means u should be able to get it in the right spot for ya! and the climate control kicks in very quick!

atleast it'll give u some cash to lower it etc, but bare in mind theres also costs like stamp duty, and then the place will try to throw in paint protection/fabric/extended warranties etc etc blah! up to u wat u get, but dont just think its 13k ;) best to think of ur mods after buying the car ;)

that said, i replaced the rims on mine within a week :D

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 03:32 PM
HAHA yeah thats why ive been posting so much without even having driven a magna yet, cos i am planning all my stuff way in advance so i no how long i have to save for everything.
My plans are as follows: (please give your opinion)
Paint it black
Eventually swap all woodgrain for normal stuff, have it painted bright green
have the rest in black
seats in black and green
green neons, both inside and out
sound system of about $1700 - looking into fusions to keep with the colour scheme
Nice exhaust with hotdog
CAI
kit if i need it
lowered on king lows f and b
what ya reckon? gna chew me wallet i no but its a long term thing
when i get it ill be posting it all up

Paint it black

Buy a black one, seriously, even from interstate if you have to. The cost of flying over and driving it back, or putting it on a truck and getting it to you, will still be less than a full respray.

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 03:45 PM
how much is a full respray?

HAMISH2
02-05-2007, 03:52 PM
how much is a full respray?
way way way too much, unless you know of some1 whos a painter and knows how to paint, ohnestly save your money and get the vrx,if your lucky you may pick 1 up less than 12-15 grand.Check the auto trader and sunday times etc theres always a few good magnas for sale in perth:)

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 04:04 PM
Thanks guys, the alternative, was to do the same as before, without the respray, cos its dark blue and do the interior dark blue and crimson. I want something with wow appeal so yeh i rekn itd look sweet
Benj

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 04:04 PM
or white interior with blue neon etc

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 04:13 PM
what bout rada kits, r they hard to find???

Spackbace
02-05-2007, 04:14 PM
given ur gonna rice it up, i'd say go a vrx... veradas are really more to be pimped than riced imo, not the sort of car for neons and green consoles

its ur choice, but its a cruiser, not a 'hello look at me i'm all green' kinda car

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 04:19 PM
Ah fair call, haha ill probly get it and go hmmmmmm nah gna keep it as is lol
the price is just really tempting.
ill go test drive it.
All the paint and interior options were meant to be last on my list anyways, first is lowering, nice rims, exhaust and sound, but i dno if ill bother with the colour scheme

BishiBenj
02-05-2007, 04:31 PM
oh and another thing, im gna sell my pulsar, so ive cleaned it up and im gna put in the old speakers, take mine out, take my sub out, take my pioneer head out and put in the stock one, but leave the amp in to save the trouble of rewiring the whole thing (only a 4x50W xplod anyway). Now the question. I have a decent scrape on the front bumper, right hand corner, not deep, but its about 10cm by 20cm and has scraped the paint and a little tiney bit of plastic off. How should i go about repairing it. Bear in mind i want to spend minimal money on it????

Spackbace
02-05-2007, 04:32 PM
once its dumped and rimmed ( ), u'll get as many looks as u would if u altered the interior. imo i think the tl/tw shape doesnt turn heads as much as previous models, so do nice things to it, not rice things, and u'll b happy :)

Red Valdez
02-05-2007, 05:06 PM
how much is a full respray?

I would have guessed around $5,000 for a decent job.

You could get cheaper - heck, I'm sure I've seen <$1,500 resprays talked about on other car forums - but you get what you pay for.

Unless the paint is worn and desparately needs repainting, I would not bother respraying it.

there is a ralliart tippy in todays west for 22k with only 30,000km on the clock.

You might get it for 20k in a week or two. This would get you 180kw and far better performance option than vrx or verada. You would need to spend thousands to get a vrx to go as well as a ralliart.

i think you mean 163kw's
ralliarts have better proformance options
which are: 2pot brakes, LSD and stock eclipse sound system
i think theres a couple of other things tho

nope pretty sure ralliart came out with 180kw. it has higher compression pistons and lumpier cams than vrx.

it is one hell of a vehicle and supposedly will run to 0-100 in about 7.5s TAKING OFF IN SECOND GEAR!

if your mainly looking for the performance side of the vrx and not 2 worried bout tidbits and would rather have spare money to mod, then go for a sports model of the tj, they are slightly lighter, have same power as the vrx and still look pretty nice :)
