what the deal with getting different cams, what can i run it off, stock ecu, piggyback, full replacement, or even something like a SAFC if the car was turbo?
thanks

Running an aftermarket ECU is alaways advisable when changing cams. Although you should be able to run a stage 1 cam from RPW with the standard ecu without too many problems. Probably best to get a piggy back. Not too expensive and does the job.
Even with cams and a ECU tune up.. i'm pretty sure a manual 3.5 magna will still be faster!:D

Adding to what choonga said..
mild cam - don't need a custom tune but it will unlock some hidden power
moderate cam - you need a custom tune, a piggy back should be fine
extreme cam - you need a custom tune, and what's more you could be outside the adjustment range of the standard ecu's open-loop maps too, so look hard at a full replacement ecu
oh, and the SAFC is just another piggy-back, nothing special there.

the car is running 221rwkw near stock and is manual, are you sure??? maybe you can come along to heathcote and prove me wrong???:bowrofl:
thanks for that guys, just wanted to clear that up, probably go between a mild and a moderate cam, want some extra power but don't want to buy another ECU or piggy back, rather use the money so i can get my big single earlier :)

My bad! I thought you were talking about a Magna. Cheapest and easiest mods for a turbo car is upgrade the intercooler to a larger higherflowing one, Larger/Hi-flow turbo, up the boost, upgrade fuel system.. e.g injectors, fpr and fuel pump and a Aftermarket Computer.
221rwkw... stock? are you sure? too many drugs for you!
i'm pretty sure thats 221kw at the fly mate. So more like 160-170rwkw.... from a fresh motor.

221kw at the wheels, stock engine, front mount, 13psi boost, safc, pod, exhaust, standard twin turbo's, 210-230 at the wheels is average for these cars with your standard mods and tune, big single at 16psi + fuel kit puts out about 260, gotta love the JZ engines, when i get it i'll see if i can get a copy of the dyno sheet n post it up.
considering a magna with 6-7psi supercharged into a 3.5L puts out about 160-170 with basic mods, twice the boost in a 2.5l which is better designed for performance, plus unlike a supercharger doesn't use engine power but exhaust power. doesn't seam to far fetched does it?
